The New Eve is available for pre-order on Amazon and Nightmare Records Website.

S.U.E began in 1999 when guitarist Vince Benaim decided to create a progressive metal band with a few friends. In summer of 2004 S.U.E. signed a worldwide record deal with the French label Replica Records as well as an American licensing deal with Nightmare Records.  In 2006 the band released their debut album Mental Torments.

In 2007 S.U.E. released Anima, a strong follow up building on what they created and achieved with their debut Mental Torments.   Like their previous album, those around the band helped them achieve their vision.

2007 and 2008 saw the band perform at two ProgPower festivals: ProgPower Scandinavia in 2007 and ProgPower USA in 2008.   Their shows captivated the audience expanding SPHERI C UNIVERSE EXPERIENCE's fan base while exposing them to more fans of the genre. While touring with UK progressive metallers Threshold, the band found time to write and record their third album entitled Unreal.  The album was released worldwide in May 2009.   Unreal saw the band expanding and strengthening their sound even more.  With Unreal the band added another notch to their belt of   spectacular sound of technical and melodic metal.

With their fourth offering The New Eve,  French progressive metallers SPHERIC UNIVERSE EXPERIENCE have succeeded where most  have failed; growing as a band musically and creatively from one album to the next.  With The New Eve the band take yet another huge step forward creating one of the most compelling melodic prog metal releases of 2012, bringing freshness again to the ever expanding genre.

SEVEN KINGDOMS Announce Tracklisting for The Fire is Mine #metal

World Premiere of New Video Set For ProgPower USA

Florida power metallers SEVEN KINGDOMS have completed work on their latest album which is titled The Fire is Mine.  In May of 2012 the band entered Morrisound Studios to create a record powerful enough to hang with the best in metal. With legendary producer Jim Morris (Iced Earth, Obituary, JOP, Jag Panzer etc) at the helm and much more experience gained, SEVEN KINGDOMS created their next melodic power thrash opus.

Today SEVEN KINGDOMS revealed the tracklisting for The Fire is Mine which is set for an October 9th release on Nightmare Records.  The Fire is Mine can be pre-ordered on the Nightmare Records Website and Amazon.

The Fire is Mine Tracklisting:
1)    Beyond the Wall
2)    After the Fall
3)    Forever Brave
4)    Flame of Olympus
5)    Symphony of Stars
6)    The Fire is Mine
7)    Kardia
8)    Fragile Minds Collapse
9)    In the Twisted Twilight
10)    A Debt Paid in Steel
11)    The King in the North

SEVEN KINGDOMS' new music video for the song "After the Fall" will receive its exclusive premiere at the ProgPower USA Festival on Saturday September 15th.  It will be shown that evening on the big screens in between sets from Pretty Maids and Symphony X.  A screenshot from the video can be seen below.

The Fire is Mine, the third offering from Florida's SEVEN KINGDOMS, shows a great solidification in their sound and direction; they've amped up every aspect from song writing, vocals to production and live performance. This one goes to eleven on all counts - including the number of tracks! The vocals and beautiful crystalline melodies of Sabrina Valentine are uniquely set in a furious power/thrash metal attack, blended with epic choirs and the occasional beer-chanting of the men of SEVEN KINGDOMS.

Guitarist Camden Cruz commented on the impending release of The Fire is Mine:
"Words cannot describe how excited we are to get this album out to the masses.  We have further developed our sound on this album, and I think many will agree that it's a whole step above the last record, in every way possible.  This is also our 'best' sounding record we have done.  We truly believe everyone will enjoy it!  We had many of our fans donate to the recording which was a tremendous help.  This record was made possible by YOUR help!  Thank you."

Lance King president of Nightmare Records is equally as excited for the masses to hear The Fire is Mine:

"SEVEN KINGDOMS have brought their 'A Game' on this one. Everything is top notch, from song writing to production, Sabrina's voice has never sounded better. It's a buy or die for fans of melodic power metal."

Yamantaka// Sonic Titan #new track free download

        YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN
Known as much for their progressive approach to melding psychedelia, opera and metal as they are for their captivating, and completely stunning live shows, there is never a dull moment in the world of YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN.

YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN have released a new track as part of the Adult Swim Singles Program,"Lamia." The track can be downloaded here as well as seen live as part of a recent in-store performance at Sonic Boom during NXNE.

The band, who was recently shortlisted for the Polaris Prize alongside Grimes, Cadence Weapon, Japandroids and Drake, are releasing a split 7" with fellow nominees Fucked Up to coincide with the awards, followed by a never before seen 33 minute rock opera. Premeiering at this year's Pop Montreal Festival and presented in three parts, "33 // " explores ancient Asian and North American mythology in a contemporary setting, replete with aging drag queens, desire, fame, jealousy and murder. You can catch them at the festival when they premiere the opera in Montreal on September 21st.

Also, Paper Bag Records has just signed YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN for Canada and is re-issuing the LP on vinyl. You can buy it digitally now or order the vinyl here.

YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN are a psychedelic noh-wave opera group fusing noise, metal, pop and folk music into a multidisciplinary hyper-orientalist cesspool of 'eastern' culture in giant monochrome paper sets. Blending Noh, Peking Opera, Buddhist Ritual Punk, Taiko Shows, Tokusatsu, Performance Art, Rock Opera & their own mangaesque cardboard 'NEVERFLAT' style of 2.5D set design, their bizarre form of music//altheater have awked and shawed audiences in Montreal for several years.

Founded in early 2008 by performance artists alaskaB and Ruby Kato Attwood, from the ashes of 'Yellow Peril', YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN functions as a mutating and constantly evolving art cult that brings together individuals of Diasporic and Indigenous identity to perform/create as a collective. Working in multiple mediums including Installation, Theater, Music and Design, YT//ST negotiate cultural clashes between dominant cultures and those whose traditions are oppressed, erased or being eclipsed.

YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN continues to operate now between Montreal & Toronto

Quotes /

"The record feels wholly substantial and satisfying in its own right, and even those with no prior knowledge of YT//ST's history and elaborate intentions can just enjoy it for what it is: volcanic prog-rock colored with equal parts post-punk urgency, stoner-metal heft, and psychedelic pop whimsy." Pitchfork

"We'll sheepishly admit we're relatively new to Yamantaka's unique breed of gloomy, Kabuki-tinged metal-cum-experimental rock opera (or "noh-wave." as they call it), but from what we've heard (and seen) from the collective, we definitely dig." Spin

"A reputation for elaborate designed DIY live shows, which, like the group’s music, incorporates influences from across time and space. But most importantly, its music, as strange and dense as it can be, is an oddly accessible and strangely enjoyable listen." A.V. Club

"YT//ST creates full-scale events, complete with eerie face-paint, monochromatic paper sets and Boredoms-style drum blasts that blend black metal and kabuki into a jaw-dropping new form. The group's debut album is equally epic, yet it's all just a glimpse into their master plan to freak out the squares with a stage production so large no theatrein the world could contain it." Noisey

CHI, IL LIVE SHOWS ON OUR RADAR: PUJOL AT ACE BAR THIS SAT 9/1

 PUJOL

Shut out of sold out North Coast, or wanna get in a little after party party?

PUJOL will be rocking Chi-town's Ace Bar this Saturday-9pm with 3 openers.   21+.   Just $8.

PUJOL, the animated and charismatic band of prolific frontman, Daniel Pujol, will be in Chicago at Ace Bar this Saturday, September 1st. As Spinner praised of a recent show, PUJOL "turned in a fiery performance...Really, just get involved now, because these guys are phenomenal."

Album Stream On Rolling Stone

Based out of Nashville, PUJOL bring a gritty intensity to the stage, one that builds on the catchy, intellectually driven rock and roll anthems of their fantastic debut album, UNITED STATES OF BEING, out now on Saddle Creek. Seeing what Rolling Stone calls the "scuzzy, catchy tracks that combine youthful energy with lyrical precociousness" played live takes the music to another level, with the band's dynamic, raw energy catapulting the sound around the room.

PUJOL arose from the ashes of MEEMAW in 2009 to carry on the Nashvillian ideals of DIY and self construction through adeptly crafted songs based firmly in meaningful lyrical content. It’s these motives and songs that have taken PUJOL from the basements of Middle Tennessee to stages across the country and have garnered notice from more than just those with their ear to the ground.

Releasing a plethora of singles and cassettes over the past two years on Jack White’s Third Man Records, Nashville’s Infinity Cat Recordings and Turbo Time Records among others, PUJOL has now partnered with Omaha's Saddle Creek. Following the critically praised Nasty, Brutish, and Short EP from last year, PUJOL finally has an official debut full-length ready for unveiling. UNITED STATES OF BEING continues on with PUJOL’s doctrine of trying hard everyday and ventures lyrically to a place that most contemporaries fail to reach. Addressing the current status of twenty-somethings in America’s present and capturing their shared dispositions, the album throws the brakes on "catharsis," and begs the listener to decide for themselves how to answer the robot's last question, "What is love?" With riff-oriented guitar playing reminiscent of greats like The Replacements and Beetlejuice-esque earworms, PUJOL now sits atop the fringes of the rock and roll and DIY vernacular.

Whether this strange world chooses to embrace PUJOL is of no matter, as the prolific frontman will continue to carry on as always - Taking Care of Business 24/7. The adrenalized, infectious debut full-length, UNITED STATES OF BEING, is out now on Saddle Creek.

AWARD WINNING PIANIST/VOCALIST MARCIA BALL TO PERFORM AT OLD TOWN 9/30! #blues

Chi, IL Live Shows On Our Radar:

Texas-born, Louisiana-raised pianist/vocalist/songwriter Marcia Ball, touring in support of her Grammy-nominated Alligator Records CD, ROADSIDE ATTRACTIONS, will give two performances on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. Ball's groove-laden New Orleans R&B, heart-wrenching ballads and driving Gulf Coast blues have made her a one-of-a-kind favorite of music fans everywhere.

Her music mixes equal parts simmering soul fervor and rollicking Crescent City piano. Over the course of her career, Ball's infectious, intelligent and deeply emotional songs have won her a loud and loyal international fan base.

ROADSIDE ATTRACTIONS is her fifth release for Alligator, and the fourth to receive a Grammy nomination.

Ball received the 2012 Blues Music Award (BMA) for the Pinetop Perkins Piano Player Of The Year. She has now won a total of nine BMAs. She also won three 2012 Living Blues Readers' Awards: Blues Artist Of The Year--Female, Most Outstanding Musician--Keyboard and Best Blues Album Of 2011 for ROADSIDE ATTRACTIONS. She was inducted into the Gulf Coast Hall of Fame in 2010 and into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2012.

"Based in Austin and steeped in New Orleans, Marcia Ball plumbs the richness of both musical meccas. From rootsy swamp pop and blues-drenched boogie woogie to languid ballads, Ball is equally comfortable with brash roadhouse romps and caressing love songs."                                             -USA Today

Produced by famed songwriter, musician and producer Gary Nicholson (Delbert McClinton, Wynonna Judd, T. Graham Brown), ROADSIDE ATTRACTIONS finds Marcia Ball at a creative peak. Ball wrote or co-wrote every song-something she had never done over the course of her forty-year career. Throughout the proceedings, her stellar musicians add power and nuance to the music, perfectly complementing Ball's expert piano playing, slice-of-life lyrics and melodic, storytelling vocals.

Born in Orange, Texas in 1949 to a family whose female members all played piano, Ball grew up in the small town of Vinton, Louisiana, right across the border from Texas. She began taking piano lessons at age five, playing old Tin Pan Alley tunes from her grandmother's collection. From her aunt, Marcia heard more modern and popular music. But it wasn't until she was 13 that Marcia discovered the power of soul music. One day in 1962, she sat amazed while Irma Thomas delivered the most spirited performance the young teenager had ever seen.

In 1970, Ball set out for San Francisco. Her car broke down in Austin, and while waiting for repairs she fell in love with the city and decided to stay. It wasn't long before she was performing in the city's clubs with a progressive country band called Freda And The Firedogs, while beginning to hone her songwriting skills. It was around this time that she delved deeply into the music of the great New Orleans piano players, especially Professor Longhair. "Once I found out about Professor Longhair," recalls Ball, "I knew I had found my direction."

When the band broke up in 1974, Marcia launched her solo career, signing to Capitol Records and debuting with the country-rock album Circuit Queen in 1978. Discovering and honing her own sound, she released six critically acclaimed titles on the Rounder label during the 1980s and 1990s. Her recordings and perfor-
mances received glowing reviews in major music publications, and Marcia was featured on leading television and radio programs, including Austin City Limits and NPR's Fresh Air and Piano Jazz.

Since the release of her Alligator debut Presumed Innocent in 2001, Ball has received more popular and critical acclaim than ever before. 2003's So Many Rivers continued the push forward, with Billboard declaring, "Ball is a consummate pro-a killer pianist, a great singer and songwriter. Powerful. Righteous." 2005's Live! Down The Road received equally impressive praise. The New Orleans Times-Picayune said simply, "Bayou boogie has a queen and her name is Marcia Ball." Billboard said, "Peace, Love & BBQ is a welcome ray of sunshine. This is a potent batch of tunes, highlighted by Ball's keyboard mastery."

Living the life she loves, Marcia has no plans of slowing down anytime soon. "Forty years of roadside attractions and the life of roaming 'round has never worn thin," she proudly says. "I love it when the wheels start rolling, when the band starts playing, when the crowds start dancing."

Now, with ROADSIDE ATTRACTIONS and a long list of high profile tour dates, Ball will bring her blend of Texas roadhouse boogie and Louisiana swamp blues to fans around the globe.

"What's not to like about Marcia Ball?" asked The Austin Chronicle. "Scrumptious, Southern-fried boogies, blues, and ballads with the infectious street beat of New Orleans at the core."

Clearly, in whatever city she performs or wherever her songs play, there is no better roadside attraction than the foot-stomping, soul-stirring music of the great Marcia Ball.

Top Reasons Ren Faire in Rain Still Rocks #photo feature

"That should be a drink....Renaissance Drizzle.   Maybe a gin and tonic slushie?"  the slightly sodden vendors in the circus arts tent said as they juggled and demonstrated diablo in the rain.   Sunday was that kind of day at ye olde Bristol Renaissance Faire.   But even without fair weather, we had a fabulous time revisiting the 1500's.

ChiIL Mama's Top Ten Reasons Ren Faire in Rain Still Rocks

*1  The crowds were down, and we could walk right up to most food and even ye olde flush privies without a wait!   The dust and heat were down,  too.   Huzzah!

*2  There was something satisfyingly absurd about seeing water balloon acro in a downpour.   The overfilled balloons popping on the pre-soaked actors was still amusing.   Barely Balanced's new aptly named 2pm "Water Show" was a wet and wild good time.    The slippery surfaces made for more of a challenge and they needed a bit of extra stabilization, but that just added to the fun.    And ice down the pants is still cold...and funny, in a chilling rain.   It was raining enough that I kept my camera packed away, but we highly recommend seeing Barely Balanced!

*3  It was the weirdest rain I've ever seen.  It repeatedly rained in very hard, short bursts then cleared, then rained hard and short again all day.   When I mentioned to a vendor friend of ours, that I'd never seen it so short and hard and over so fast, a corset clad bar wench passing by laughed and said, "It's like a guy doing it."   We laughed at the time, but it got funnier the more I really thought about it. *4  We ended up seeking shelter in little stores we'd never visited in our decades of doing Ren Faire, and stuck around longer looking at the goods in some of our old favs.

We found secret hidden gardens, licorice & sassafras rootbeer,

awesome drums, didgeridoos

and wicked cool witch hats, all while dodging the raindrops.

*5  Long haired boys look hotter when wet....Yeah, alright.   So do the bald ones.

*6  Whips still light and crack gloriously in the rain.   We highly recommend checking out Adam Crack, the fire whip guy, who holds 10 Guiness World Records...

and knows how to open a pop can like no other!

*7  And the kings of Ren Faire...The Swordsmen, are a must see as well, even with their altered casting this season.   Guido is "locked in the tower in London for reading ribald love poetry to the queen", so Dirk and Guido's young nephew, Bravo, are entertaining till he can be freed.

In actuality, Swordsman David Woolley is recovering from a heart attack, and healing well, but still taking it easy.   We like the colorful back story, though!  You can follow The Swordsmen on Facebook  for health updates and future show info.

Bravo's risen to the occasion admirably.   He's like a 1500's Orlando Bloom type in velvet tights and thigh high leather boots.   And Dirk and Bravo can play off all the age difference jokes in both directions.    Catch 'em while you can.    Guido is slated to return by the 2nd week of Ren Faire in Ohio.   Huzzah!   (It was also raining a bit hard for my good camera to make an appearance, but you can look back in our archives below for years of Swordsmen fun).

Here's a shot of the boy, Bravo, the only one we don't have prior mug shots of...from the Swordsmen's FB page. My husband, Dug, did the audio for The Swordsmen's DVD, so we've been taking annual Dug and Doug pixs for years. (see Dirk with hair!!).

And our favorite shot--the bloopers roll--from the "felled by a bootlace fight" also involving a cookie, a kid wipe out, and an accidental stoning!!   Click here for the full sordid tale.

Click all these links for our photo filled past features
*8  Downing swords in a downpour!   This time around, we also dug The Clan Tynker Circus in the rain.

We were able to shoot the bulk of their show, including stilts, accordian, fire eating, sword swallowing, juggling and duo diablo, before the drizzle became a deluge.

But the short, hard rains came just in time to make their grand finale extra challenging.   No more spoilers.   Come see the show for yourselves, or you'll just have to wonder...

*9  Giant waffle cones and mile high chocolate crepes are just as tasty under an umbrella!

*10  Bravo for the brave--Rain adds an extra element of misery and danger to aerial arts, acro and wire work!

Huzzah to the performers who brave pelting rains, fire & ice, machetes, knives and swords, slippery tightropes, and bodily harm for our amusement.

Also, huzzah to my brave and awesome 9 year old daughter who broke her permanent front tooth on Saturday, doing a Chinese Pole demo for a circus open house.   Her hands slipped and she did a face plant right into a metal pole, braved the dentist, and despite a fair amount of pain, she was up for a visit to Ren Faire the very next day.   Instead of hiding out, embarrassed, she rocked her gap toothed grin, proudly declaring it as an extra Renaissancie touch to her costume!!    We'll get her patched up with porcelain next Saturday when the root's calmed down.   Then she'll have a self proclaimed "bathtub tooth".

Bristol Renaissance Fair runs one last 3 day weekend, Labor Day Saturday through Monday.     Come on out and play while you can.

Be sure to snag discount coupons at Walgreens before you go.   Also, check out  Bristol Ren Faire's main site right here, for advanced tickets, specials and must see events.   Then head out of town and back in time for some merry olde adventures at Bristol Renaissance Faire.    The fair runs through Labor Day Monday, then there's a special 25th anniversary bash September 14th & 15th this year.    Huzzah!!

This year, for the first time, Bristol is also opening it's two day cast party to the public.   The fair will be packed up, but food and drinks will be plentiful.
