NEW RELEASES: WHOLE NEW LIFE, REVEREND HORTON HEAT'S FIRST ALBUM IN NEARLY 5 YEARS OUT NOW!

REVEREND HORTON HEAT RELEASE
FIRST ALBUM IN NEARLY 5 YEARS
WHOLE NEW LIFE

DEBUT NEW VIDEO “HOG TYIN’ WOMAN”
Midnight, Texas TV Performance Airs December 7
On Tour Now

Here at ChiIL Live Shows, we're celebrating the new album release. We got a press preview link and it's been in heavy rotation on our play list this week. I'm shooting live show photos at REVEREND HORTON HEAT'S Chicago Metro show as well as reviewing the new tunes, so check back soon for our full recap.

Horton's Holiday Hayride is coming to a stage near YOU and features an amazing lineup! Including Reverend Horton HeatJunior Brown Fan PageThe Blasters and Big Sandy of Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys

The foot-stomping hellfire roots of REVEREND HORTON HEAT’s rock 'n' roll stylings are louder than ever with Whole New Life, the brand new album available worldwide today. The band also delivers the second video in the form of the sexy and sultry “Hog Tyin’ Woman.”

As the album hits shelves, the Texas rebels have traveled thousands of miles, playing 13 countries in front of over one million people since the release of 2014’s Rev. Watch the band perform “Hog Tyin’ Woman” on the NBC thriller Midnight, Texas on December 7.

Watch “Hog Tyin’ Woman” Music Video:

“It’s the most positive album I’ve ever done, admits ringleader Jim ‘Reverend’ Heath. “Some of my stuff in the past was dark, maybe too dark. I guess I’m not the awful vindictive jerk I thought I was!”

Recording the album in their hometown of Dallas, Heath says that “Creating Whole New Life brought out something more positive in my storytelling and guitar playing. I also saw a vocal coach to reach notes unheard to the average fan. It's got some Southern feel to it, a bit of gruff and a crooning style to it. Write what you know, that’s what they tell ya in school, right?”

The artwork was created by a pair of rock ‘n’ roll sisters called The Mad Twins, Olya and Vira. These creative designers from the Ukraine also animated ‘Hardscrabble Woman,’ the bands final video from the previous album. “Jim Heath is a real old-school gentleman with a precise taste of 1950’s retro style and an excellent sense of humor,” Vira professes. “Jim gave us a good guide of the songs meanings lyrically and musically so we visualized a 1950’s color style from that era. Call it globalism but isn’t it wild that two Ukrainian female artists are doing American 50’s graphics for a Texas band thirty years into their career? The design, art and music of that time are so powerful because people were doing it all by hand - paintings, clothing, cars, instruments - there were simple and naïve emotions, less vulgarity, straight honesty and sincere love. All that makes up the musical tornado of REVEREND HORTON HEAT.”

Undoubtedly one of the most important and popular rockabilly artists of all time, the legendary Texas troop have genre-hopped their fan base in front of audiences from the Sex Pistols, Johnny Cash, Soundgarden, ZZ Top, Motorhead and tons of other heavy-hitters.

“This tour started around 1986,” Heath chuckles dryly. Performing nearly 200 shows a year, REVEREND HORTON HEAT officially kicked off the Horton’s Holiday Hayride Tour on November 27 in Omaha, NE and will wrap up the year in Birmingham, AL on December 22. As more riotous shows are booked for 2019, Heath cracks, “I’m afraid I’m on the Willie Nelson retirement program, which means I’ll never retire!”

INCOMING: Wolfmother At Metro Supporting Their Victorious Release Out On February 19th

Here at ChiIL Live Shows we've been fans of the Grammy Award-winning rock band WOLFMOTHER, since their first album in 2005, and we've caught them live in an iconic Chicago venue and at Lollapalooza as well. We highly recommend giving their new material a listen and catching them live if at all possible. Their Victorious Tour runs February 24th through April 1.

February 19th is the release date for their highly anticipated new album, VICTORIOUS (Universal Music Enterprises) and they're coming our way, playing Metro in Chicago the 2nd night of their tour, February 25th. Fans around the world can already catch a sneak preview of the album since WOLFMOTHER premiered two tracks – "Victorious" and "City Lights" –which can be heard via Spotify HERE.

Fans can get "Victorious" and "City Lights" as instant downloads by clicking HERE to pre-order VICTORIOUS. The CD is also available for pre-order through Amazon HERE and pre-orders and exclusive merch bundles are also available at http://smarturl.it/wolfmotherstore.

Wolfmother will support VICTORIOUS with a headline tour of North America set to kick off February 24th at First Avenue in Minneapolis(see full itinerary below). On November 30th at 10am, fans that have signed up for Wolfmother email updates (at www.wolfmother.com) will receive a special code to purchase tickets before they are available to the general public. On December 4th, tickets go on sale to the general public. For more information, please visit www.wolfmother.com.

Wolfmother recently teamed with popular enhanced colouring book app Recolor to give fans the opportunity to create their own colorized version of the VICTORIOUS album art. Fan submissions can be viewed HERE.  Recolor was created by premium photo app developer Sumoing.

The follow-up to 2009's Cosmic Egg and 2014's New Crown, the much-anticipated VICTORIOUS is an electrifying testament to the range and depth of songwriter/vocalist/guitarist Andrew Stockdale's artistry. Recorded at Henson Studios in Los Angeles with 2X Grammy winning producer Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, AC/DC, Chris Cornell, Bruce Springsteen), the songs are edgy, inventive and uncompromising and rank among the band's best ever.

Stockdale began working on the record this past January at his Byron Bay studio in New South Wales, writing on every instrument and embracing the same creative approach he used on the band's debut album a decade ago.
"Back in the early days, I'd play guitar, bass, and drums and then present the ideas to the band and we'd work on the arrangement together," he says. "I thought it would be cool to get back to demoing ideas by myself and playing everything. It's a good way to do things because it can make the style more cohesive."

In addition to vocals, Stockdale played guitar and bass and brought in Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails, Bruce Springsteen, A Perfect Circle) and Joey Waronker (Air, Beck, REM) to split drum duties. "We wanted to get back to that big sound," says Stockdale. "The album is a balance of garage-y energy and big production. It's wild, energetic and," he muses, "perfect for a festival main stage."

Wolfmother first made its mark in 2005 with an eponymous debut that was exactly what rock & roll needed: a meaty, beaty, big and bouncy genre resuscitator that not only broke through to the mainstream, but broke big. The album was certified Gold in the States, UK & Canada and 5x-Platinum in the band's Australian homeland. Lead single "Woman" hit top ten on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks Chart and won a Grammy for "Best Hard Rock Performance." Their songs became ubiquitous, appearing in films (Shrek, Jackass, Due Date,The Hangover I, II & III), video games (Need For Speed, MLB: The Show, Saints Row) and television commercials (Apple, Mitsubishi).Rolling Stone named it one of the best albums of the year, Q Magazine called it "immense fun," NME said it ticked "the requisite boxes for all great rock & roll" and called it "utterly, utterly thrilling" and Pitchfork praised the songs for striking "a balance between meaty vintage metal and crisp, stoner-rock melodies."

Led by Stockdale, Wolfmother have amassed a global fanbase, played to packed-house crowds around the world, delivered show-stealing sets at star-studded festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Isle of Wight, Rock am Ring and Reading and Leeds, and have been invited to share stages with rock icons Aerosmith and AC/DC. For their induction into the UK Music Hall of Fame, Led Zeppelin personally invited Wolfmother as their guests (the band showed their appreciation by delivering an electrifying cover of "Communication Breakdown").

Ten years after their arrival, Wolfmother have returned with what could arguably be called their best work to date. With VICTORIOUS, Stockdale once again arrives right on time: in an era dominated by single-song downloads, this is an album worthy of repeat listens from top to bottom.

REVIEW: Original Photo Recap Savages at Metro #OriginalPhotos #review

London alternative, post punk band, Savages, are a genuine stand out in a sea of mediocrity.   They have a fantastic look, talent to back it, and a stage presence that belies their youth.  Their debut, Silence Yourself, has been garnering all kinds of acclaim, but they truly shine live.  They've been around since 2011 but are now gaining an international following.  On 9 December 2012, the BBC announced that the band had been nominated for the Sound of 2013 poll.  Their debut album hit #19 on the UK charts in May of 2013.
Highly recommended!

Savages are:

  • Jehnny Beth (vocals) - real name Camille Berthomier; previously part of the French indie rock duo John & Jehn.
  • Gemma Thompson (guitar)
  • Ayse Hassan (bass)
  • Fay Milton (drums)

Fay goes nuts on the drums with energy and passion reminiscent of her early garage band days.

We caught their recent appearance at The Metro in Chicago and they truly killed it.   Their lyrics are some of the deepest, most insightful truths I've heard in a long while.  Their vocals and music are reminiscent of Siouxsie Sioux, Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, Joy Division and Bauhaus, yet they retain a unique, new sound that keeps them from coming across as derivative.

Not just boys fun.   This powerhouse band of women is androgynous, sexy and talented, with insight to spare.   We know the vibrato is not everyone's cup of tea, but we dig it!   Lead singer Jehnny Beth (given name: Camille Berthomier) is from France,  and the rest of the band is from England.  Their manager John Best also manages Sigur Ros.

We highly recommend checking them out. Thousands of band, pitches and promos come across our screen every week, but it's been a long time since I was this jazzed about new talent.   They rocked Pitchfork and Coachella Music and Arts Fest 2013 and have been selling out venues throughout the US and Europe.

Check out a few of their videos here.

Their first release, Silence Yourself, is available now via Beth's own label Pop Noire and Matador Records (released on 6 May 2013),

We also think they're absolutely on track with Silence Your Phones and Silence Yourself.    There's no lack of information in society today, but people are losing the ability to be entirely, deeply in the moment, without the distractions of technology.

DEAR AUDIENCE
OUR GOAL IS TO ALWAYS DISCOVER BETTER WAYS OF LIVING AND EXPERIENCING MUSIC
WE BELIEVE THERE ARE STILL NEW WAYS TO BE FOUND
WE BELIEVE THE USE OF PHONES TO FILM AND TAKE PICTURES DURING A GIG PREVENTS ALL OF US FROM TOTALLY IMMERSING OURSELVES
ONLY WITH FULL EXPERIENCE WILL THE WORDS WE SPEAK BE TRUE
LET’S MAKE EACH EVENING SPECIAL
SILENCE YOUR PHONES

THE WOLRD USED TO BE SILENT
NOW IT HAS TOO MANY VOICES
AND THE NOISE IS A CONSTANT DISTRACTION
THEY MULTIPLY, INTENSIFY
THEY WILL DIVERT YOUR ATTENTION TO WHAT’S CONVENIENT
AND FORGET TO TELL YOU ABOUT YOURSELF
WE LIVE IN AN AGE OF MANY STIMULATIONS
IF YOU ARE FOCUSED YOU ARE HARDER TO REACH
IF YOU ARE DISTRACTED YOU ARE AVAILABLE
YOU ARE DISTRACTED
YOU ARE AVAILABLE
YOU WANT FLATTERY
ALWAYS LOOKING TO WHERE IT’S AT
YOU WANT TO TAKE PART IN EVERYTHING AND EVERYTHING TO BE A PART OF YOU
YOUR HEAD IS SPINNING FAST AT THE END OF YOUR SPINE UNTIL YOU HAVE NO FACEAT ALL
AND YET
IF THE WORLD WOULD SHUT UP
EVEN FOR A WHILE
PERHAPS
WE WOULD START HEARING THE DISTANT RHYTHM OF AN ANGRY YOUNG TUNE – AND RECOMPOSE OURSELVES
PERHAPS
HAVING DECONSTRUCTED EVERYTHING
WE SHOULD BE THINKING ABOUT PUTTING EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER
SILENCE YOURSELF

What They're about:

SAVAGES is not trying to give you something you didn’t have already, it is calling within yourself something you buried ages ago, it is an attempt to reveal and reconnect yourPHYSICAL and EMOTIONAL self and give you the urge to experience your life differently, your girlfriends, your husbands, your jobs, your erotic life and the place music occupies in your life. Because we must teach ourselves new ways of POSITIVE MANIPULATIONS, music and words are aiming to strike like lightning, like a punch in the face, a determination to understand the WILL and DESIRES of the self.

Check out Savages "manifestos" from their web site.

SAVAGES’ INTENTION IS TO CREATE A SOUND, INDESTRUCTIBLE, MUSICALLY SOLID,WRITTEN FOR THE STAGE AND DESIGNED WITH ENOUGH NUANCES TO PROVIDE AWIDE RANGE OF EMOTIONS. SAVAGES ARE A SELF-AFFIRMING VOICE TO HELP EXPERIENCE OUR GIRLFRIENDS DIFFERENTLY, OUR HUSBANDS, OUR JOBS, OUR EROTIC LIFE, AND THE PLACE MUSIC OCCUPIES INTO OUR LIVES. SAVAGES’ SONGS AIM TO REMIND US THAT HUMAN BEINGS HAVEN’T EVOLVED SO MUCH, THAT MUSIC CAN STILL BE STRAIGHT TO THE POINT, EFFICIENT AND EXCITING.

This album is to be played loud in the foreground.

IN OUR MODERN WORLD, MAN ASSIDUOUSLY ABANDONS HIS LIFE TO PRACTICAL NECESSITIES AND HIS IMAGINATION TO SLAVERY. MANIPULATIONS AND FEARS –MANIPULATION BY FEAR – ARE METED OUT TO YOUNG, INTELLIGENT AND RADICAL PEOPLE WHO YIELD TO THE PRESSURE OF ACCEPTED PRACTICES AND MANY AGE-OLD SERVITUDES. THE ELDER GENERATION HASN’T COME TO WARN THEM: EACH OF THEM CAME TO TELL ABOUT THEMSELVES. EACH ONE TO TELL HOW THEY HAD EATEN, HOW THEY HAD SLEPT, HOW THEY HAD IMPORTANT ORGASMS, IMPORTANT CHILDHOODS AND DREAMS. BECAUSE AN HONEST LIFE IS ADVERTISED AS A LIFE OF SILENCE, NORMALITY AND DULL CONCEIT. ART IS STULTIFIED. LOVE A PRIVILEGE. AND IN THE VICINITY OF OUR MOST SPLENDID CREATIVE YOUTH, IT IS STRONGLY ADVICE TO KEEP OUR MOUTH SHUT IF WE WANT TO SUCCEED.
