Bad Things recently wrapped a North American tour of the country that included festival stops at Lollapalooza in Chicago and Osheaga Festival in Montreal. Rembert Browne of Grantland wrote a compelling, in depth feature on the band after being blown away by what he'd seen at Lolla. "I watched a band put on a surprisingly great show, causing a crowd to go from embarrassingly sparse to filled but skeptical to convinced by the end" remarked Browne about the band's headlining performance Saturday night, filling in the spot vacated by Death Grips. "I truly didn't know what to do with what I'd just seen, because I'd yet to accept the reality that a band featuring White pulled a substitute teacher move for Death Grips and did not fall on its face. But I wanted to know more. So I chatted with the band."
Reports from Osheaga were equally as impressive. Canadian media outlet Dose.ca awarded Bad Things with the #1 Most Surprising Moment of the festival, raving about their performance. "Google 'Bad Things' and you'll be inundated with articles that start with the words 'Shaun White's band...,' which is totally misleading, considering how much more there is to these guys" says Dose. "They have great original material and the kind of solid musicianship and stage presence you'd expect from a group that's been playing together for years."
Bad Things are confirmed for a November 2nd performance at Voodoo Festival in New Orleans. More tour news to be announced in the near future.

Charleston, SC's Shovels & Rope (Cary Ann Hearst & Michael Trent) will make their Lollapalooza debut Saturday, August 3 on the Red Bull Sound Select Stage (12:45-1:30pm) in support of their most critically acclaimed album, O' Be Joyful. With the release, Shovels & Rope made their network television debut on The Late Show With David Letterman, debut on Austin City Limits and debut on Billboard Heatseekers chart while receiving accolades from a wide variety of press. NPR Music, Associated Press, Huffington Post, The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, USA Today, New York Daily News, The Washington Post, SPIN, Nylon, Filter, American Songwriter, Relix, UTNE, American Public Media, CMT, Austin American Statesman, Garden & Gun and many others have praised the duo's compelling songs and sweat soaked live performances. Click here for highlights
This week, NPR featured Shovels & Rope in Five New Faces Of Folk saying, "On stage, South Carolina singer-songwriters Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent are geysers of goodwill: The husband-and-wife duo's chemistry and ramshackle playfulness make them difficult to resist. But listen to "Hail Hail," from last year's O' Be Joyful, and you'll also hear musicians for whom a smile is just one way to bare one's teeth."
The electrifying road warriors are making their debut on the major festival circuit this year, beginning with a thrilling performance at Coachella to which the New York Times said, “Of all this afternoon’s young bands, they were the softest, but they might make the loudest crash.” They won over fans at Sasquatch, Hangout, Wakarusa, & Forecastle festivals, with upcoming festival appearances scheduled at Newport Folk Festival, Austin City Limits, Voodoo Experience.
Shovels & Rope just wrapped an opening tour for Dawes with select opening shows for Dave Matthews Band. In September, the duo will hit the road for the remainder of 2013 on a headlining tour. For tour dates and more info, visit: http://www.shovelsandrope.com/

Lolla You're Killing Me #lolla
Friday at Lollapalooza 2013 made us make some tough choices. Nine Inch Nails Vs. The Killers. Queens of the Stone Age Vs. New Order. Sure with 150 bands and 100,000 fans a day, there's going to be too much going on at any given moment. But really... Lolla, you're killing me!
Glowing poi ball spinning and flying glo-sticks at NIN... only at #lolla LOL Never thought I'd see the day.
Here's a sampler of our Galaxy S4 photos/ Instagram Posts. Saturday & Sunday we'll have the "real" camera along for the ride. I ditched it at the last minute when yesterday's forecast called for loads of thunderstorms. The grounds were muddy & wet but happily the rain held off.
Glowing poi ball spinning and flying glo-sticks at NIN... only at #lolla LOL Never thought I'd see the day.
We had every intention of going to New Order at #lolla last night, since they're much more of a rare treat to see, and who knows if/when that'll ever happen again. But my 10 year old daughter, Sage, tweaked her foot in team gymnastics earlier in the day and we were on the FAR side of Lolla at go time & had already done a LOT of walking. So Queens of the Stone Age was a happy accident. They killed it! And bonus... we were already where we wanted to be for Nine Inch Nails!! NIN sounded amazing and broke out a full set of old favorites and decent new material too.
Shout out to Sagezilla for being mighty and awesome. Pedometer showed we walked close to 12,000 steps yesterday and she stuck it out!! We tried to pedicab it back to the car, but the first driver said no outrightly and the last said "That's far. I'll take you but it'll be $30. Right now I'm just doing short runs to take people to where they can get a cab."
Really?! My awesome kid said, "I'd rather walk it if you give me the $30, then did it for free."
Friday we ran into our friend Dan O'Connor who worked for SPIN Magazine for years and spray paints awesome DIY t-shirts for major music fests. Sage was sporting one of his creations from Lolla 09 yesterday! We plan to hang with the infamous curly mustache man and his wife and 3 sons over the weekend.
It was also great to see Cara Carriveau (Chicago's Rewind 100.3 FM radio personality) & Theresa Carter (of The Local Tourist fame).
We'll be there all day today and tomorrow with full Lollapalooza and Kidzapalooza highlights so check back like we vote in Chi, IL... early and often.

Lolla Bands On Our Radar: LUKAS NELSON & P.O.T.R. Saturday
Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real "Old Familiar Pain" - CONAN on TBS
|
"Nothing wasted, everything gained on
The Promise of the Real's second full length album."
- No Depression
"pounding out vibrant blues/rock riffs with propulsive flair...Nelson and his band had the audience on its feet by the end of their set." - Baltimore Sun
"...blows away crowds at every opportunity." - Fort Worth Weekly
For Lukas Nelson & P.O.T.R., the last couple of years were packed with over 200 performances each year, the chance to spread their unique brand of gritty rock and roll to millions via the greatest of the late night shows, and the adoption of the name "Realers" by their growing base of supporters.
Since then the band - which includes vocalist and guitarist Lukas Nelson, drummer Anthony LoGerfo, percussionist Tato Melgar and bassist Corey McCormick - made good on that promise to keep it real. In 2012, they found a way to bring their live performance experience to their second full-length release, Wasted, both lyrically and musically. Nelson penned all of the tracks and produced the record with the band. "There's a lot of magnetism, energy, and that live feel, and a lot of warmth to it. I feel like this record sounds more like what you get when you see us perform," said Nelson
This year, the acclaimed band has already performed at SXSW, on the Delbert McClinton Blues Cruise and the Kid Rock Cruise, jammed with Los Lobos' David Hidalgo and Warren Storm. They continue to bring their electric and infectious live performances with more dates including a stop at Billy Bob's Texas in April and at The Gathering of the Vibes music festival headlined by Phil Lesh in July.
The band has truly earned praise after years of honing their unique sound through doing it the old-fashioned way, by touring constantly and gelling as a band live first. And at the core of Lukas Nelson & P.O.T.R. and Wasted is what their fans know and love best - Rock n Roll that speaks from the heart.
LUKAS NELSON & P.O.T.R. WILL BE PERFORMING AT LOLLAPALOOZA IN CHICAGO ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 3RD.

For his spin on Lolla, he explores one of his favorite themes, optimism in the face of adversity, with his band of stranded sailors celebrating the sinking of their own ship. They've chosen to make the best of a bad situation and welcome the misfortune with musical merriment, despite the fact they don't even have real instruments. The official poster can be purchased at the festival or online at http://store.lollapalooza.com/ *HYDRATION: Hydration is paramount to the health and safety of patrons. Lollapalooza is committed to keeping fans hydrated via CamelBak Filling Stations. Fans can bring up to 2 factory sealed bottles into the park, or preferably an empty, refillable bottle. It also helps Lollapalooza minimize its environmental impact. Since 2010, Lollapalooza has avoided using over 700,000 water bottles! Last year fans poured enough water to fill over 249,000 water bottles. Our continued partnerships with Boxed Water and Vita Coco Coconut Water continue our efforts to eliminate the sale of plastic bottles at Lollapalooza while still hydrating attendees. *CHOW TOWN: Renowned chef Graham Elliot has returned as Lollapalooza's Culinary Ambassador, bringing some of Chicago's favorite eateries straight to fans in Grant Park.
