ACT OUT: CHI, IL LIVE DANCE--DANCE CRASH AT DCA

Gotham City:  A World Premiere Presented by Chicago Dance Crash

30 Dancers Perform Break-Dance, Ballet, Hip-Hop in Two-Act Comic Book Saga Choreographed by Jessica Deahr

CHICAGO DANCE CRASH CELEBRATES 10TH ANNIVERSARY WITH
BIGGEST SHOW TO DATE, GOTHAM CITY, JUNE 8 – JULY 15, 2012

Dancers Perform Break-Dance, Ballet, Hip-Hop in Two-Act Comic Book Saga Choreographed by Jessica Deahr at DCA Storefront Theater

Chicago Dance Crash, in association with DCA Theater, presents the world premiere of Gotham City, a fully choreographed graphic novel featuring a fusion of hip- hop, ballet and heart-pumping acrobatics performed by 30 dancers. Gotham City is the largest production Chicago Dance Crash has undertaken in its 10-year history. Choreographed by Jessica Deahr and written by Mark Hackman, Gotham City runs June 8 – July 15 2012, at the DCA Storefront Theater, 66 East Randolph Street.

Chicago Dance Crash transforms the DCA Storefront Theater into the dark, dirty, dangerous city of comic book fame, ‘Gotham.’ From sunset to sunrise eight main characters - a young female pickpocket, a dirty cop, a wandering orphan, newlywed tourists, a director, a flamboyant gang- leader and an enigmatic con man – fight to survive in this criminal wasteland. With a breathtaking fusion of dance styles, Gotham’s population of 10 million is brought to life by 30 explosive dancers fluent in classic and contemporary forms in a moving-portrait of one night in the dark life of urban underworld America.

“A story-based dance show with a cast of 30 and a six weekend run is simultaneously daunting, and yet incredibly exciting,” said choreographer Jessica Deahr. “Gotham City is not your typical dance concert. Throughout the two acts, you’ll see a blend of hard core hip hop, capoeira (Brazilian martial arts), straight-edged jazz, and clown-like contemporary, to name a few, performed by an incredibly talented and athletic cast.”

“We have layered intense characters, honest relationships and a gripping story of betrayal and power into the choreography. The audience will truly understand, and be impacted by, where the action is leading them,” added Deahr.

In addition to performing with Chicago Dance Crash as guest artist and company member from 2007 through present, Jessica Deahr has toured North America, South America, Central America, Europe and Asia as dancer and aerial artist with Royal Caribbean Productions, Jean Ann Ryan Productions, and Goldberg Entertainment for the USO. She has performed with Inaside Chicago Dance, Instruments of Movement, the Joel Hall Dancers, The MASSIVE, and with independent choreographers such as Harrison McEldowney in Chicago-based company shows as well as in Dance For Life, Jazz Dance World Congress, Spring To Dance, Duets For My Valentine, Chicago Takes Off and Dance Chicago.

Deahr has also performed at various industrials, corporate events, festivals and at the B96 Jingle Bash with Stage Factor, Impulse Talent, the JumpSmokers and Too White Crew. She has set choreography with Chicago Dance Crash, Chicago Tap Theater, Inaside Chicago Dance, Goldberg Entertainment, Dances in the Parks and in Dance Chicago where she received the New Voice Outstanding Choreography award for 2011.

Performers include David Ingram, Mary Tarpley, Charlie Cutler, Brian Humphreys, Julian Devine, Chantelle Mrowka, Paul Christiano, Al Tamper, Daniel "Qwan" Gibson, Taylor Stewart, Erin Clyne, Kaitlin Webster Keegan, Jahmilah Alazam, Emily Sarkissian, Melissa Metro, Becky Hutt and many others.

CHI, IL LIVE THEATRE: Chicago Improv Festival Finds The Funny

Chi-Town's 15th annual Improv Festival is in full swing with a multicultural medley of improvisors from around the world.   Check out an array of great acts through this Sunday.   I came from an improv background and founded and directed a troup at Miami University (No, directing improv is not an oxymoron, contrary to popular quips!).   So, I know how challenging, fresh and fun the genre can be.  Check in soon for our review of the highly recommended, hilarious Improv Play at DCA Storefront Theatre through May 20th.

We also have an exclusive video interview we'll be running soon, from the CIMMfest opening of High Road.   ChiIL Live Shows interviewed the
director, Matt Walsh, who was a founding member of Upright Citizens
Brigade.   We also spoke with actors and caught the Q & A.   So
check in with us like we vote in Chi, IL...early and often for great
entertainment news!

High Road:  Director, Chicago native Matt Walsh (The Hangover, Upright
Citizens Brigade, HBO’s upcoming Veep), joined by actors Lizzy Caplan
(Mean Girls, Bachelorette), Joe Lo Truglio (Wanderlust, Superbad), Joe
Nunez (Bridesmaids, Neighborhood Watch), James Pumphrey (Players) and
Zach Woods (NBC’s The Office, Damsels in Distress)…

This year’s CIF is themed
“Celebrating the Art of Play”

We've got friends incoming from that state that's hi in the middle and round on both ends.   Don't let their name fool ya.   ChiIL Live Shows will be documenting See You Thursday's daring dramatics SATURDAY night at The Playground.

We're jazzed that more than 75 improv
groups from 16 U.S. cities and countries as far away as Russia and
Norway are descending on Chicago from April 23-29 for the 15th annual
Chicago Improv Festival.
But we're also setting our sites a little closer to home.  See You Thursday will be the only Ohio troupe represented on the 2012 CIF performance roster, a program that includes Eastbound & Down's Ike Barinholtz and Comedy Central’s Key & Peele. See You Thursday will perform 8:30PM Saturday, April 28 at Chicago’s Playground Theater, 3209 North Halsted Street.
2012 Show Dates: through April 29 , Tickets: $10-$20
