Last year, they skipped Chi-town on tour (Joliet was the closest they came), so we road tripped down to The Vogue in Indianapolis to catch 'em with Prong and Lionize.   We'll be video interviewing Lionize tomorrow.

Check back with ChiIL Live Shows like we vote in Chi, IL... early and often.   We've got an original video interview with frontman, Neil Fallon, on everything from their excellent new release, Earth Rocker to balancing parenting and touring coming up very soon.

We've also got our review of Earth Rocker that will be up in the near future.   It's been in heavy rotation here at ChiIL Live Shows since the March release, and suffice it to say, this album rocks!   It's great to finally have some NEW Clutch out in the world!

Blackhawks & LZ2-- The Blackhawks (Immigrant) Song #originalvideo #Blackhawks #LZ2

Worlds collide alert!   Here are two of our local favorites, Led Zeppelin 2 and The Chicago Blackhawks.   ChiIL Live Shows caught LZ2 at Chicago HOB the day after the Hawks broke the Ducks 06-07 "16 non loss in regulation" record for best season opening streak.   Little did we know then that The Blackhawks would continue to kick butt and increase their non-loss streak to a whopping TWENTY FOUR!

Sure, ya can't win all the time, but we back you Blackhawks.   We came to games when you had one of the worst records in the NHL, and when you won the Stanley Cup.   We still proudly wore our jerseys during both strikes.   We had sweet Bank of America box seats with a TV crew we were shooting with, and I've shot Blackhawks training camp from the front row.   We've also had SRO tickets at the top of the Madhouse on Madison, where the view sucked, but the enthusiastic fans more than made up for the ant sized action.   We've honestly had more fun with fun people at the raucous back of the house, standing or rockin' the cheap seats more times than I can count.

We'll be watching you!!

LZ2 LIVE Show Shots From Chicago HOB 2/23/13 #photorecap

ChiIL Live Shows had the great pleasure of catching Led Zeppelin 2 in action again at HOB Chicago on 2/23/13 for The Song Remains The Same.

We still got some sweet shots, despite a security guard who decide to kick us out of the photo pit (we did have press/photo credentials) before we could even get a shot off.   Last LZ2 show they were fine about letting us stay in the pit and shoot the whole show, so I assumed they weren't going to boot us after the first 3 songs....which does happen frequently.   Evidently not.

The band knew I had to come a little late from another shoot, so I did just miss the beginning, but thought I had the duration to shoot.   There were several other photographers still in and shooting.  Oh well.  I made the best of it by trying to shoot a bit from just behind the pit, but I was next to two charming guys who elbowed me over mosh pit style, on purpose, and actually said to each other "Block her.  Don't let any girls squeeze up in here." (Although they were easily tall enough to see over me and I was obviously trying to do my job and shoot the show!)   Nice.

I know...mr. uber fan.  I'm sure you shoved over a few hundred people to get your rail riding spot.   I'll happily concede the bigger prick award to you.  But, I have the bigger camera.  You have a cell phone.   So, in the future, if you might want some decent shots on line, to remember your favorite shows by later, try not to piss off the photographers and get in the way of them working.

I got a few shots then got outta dodge to hang with friends in the balcony, where the people were far friendlier and I wasn't getting crushed by idiots.

As usual, the show was excellent.  At the risk of adding more stellar examples of humankind to the sardine can of bodies at their sold out shows, LZ2 still makes our highly recommend list.  Catch them as often as you can.

Want a whole lot more for your LZ2 fix?

Check out loads of our past LZ2 LIVE show shots & review from HOB last year right here.

DECAPITATED guitarist Wacław "Vogg" Kiełtyka shares:"Our new video for 'Homo Sum' is totally different than the previous one and really simple, but with the same energy!  Check this out!"

Vocalist Rafał "Rasta" Piotrowski adds: "It was great to record this video in Kraków with our good friends.  Great atmosphere + good mood + hours of moshing equals COOL VIDEO CLIP!  I really like the song.  It's a straight-punch-to-the-face, that's why it works in black and white.  There are no colorful stories inside, no bullshit - just mosh!!!"

The Melismatics formed at the turn of the century in the fertile ground of the Minneapolis indie-rock scene. Their debut album “Postmodern Rock” quickly caught the attention of college radio stations around the country and garnered favorable reviews from critics around the world. Shortly thereafter, Minneapolis indie-rock king pin Ed Ackerson (Motion City Sountrack, The Replacements, The Jayhawks) signed the band to Susstones Records and produced their next two albums “New Infection” and “Turn It On”.

The Melismatics toured the country numerous times over and continued to win loyal fans with their high-energy and unpredictable live shows. Their music has been featured on MTV’s “The Hills,” “The City”and “Laguna Beach,” NBC’s “Windfall”; Animal Planet’s “Jockeys” and they’ve played such notable events as Lollapalooza, Summerfest, and CMJ.

The Melismatics released “The Acid Test” on CC Entertainment/E1 Music (2008). Renowned producer John Fields (Jimmy Eat World, Rooney, Har Mar Superstar, etc) caught the band performing at 2007 SXSW in Austin, Texas and signed on to produce the album. The music video for “Digging Deep” charted at #4 on MTVU and received widespread airplay.

The Melismatics’ upcoming album “MANIA!” was produced by Jon Auer of The Posies and Big Star, along with Ed Ackerson (Motion City Soundtrack, Golden Smog, The Replacements) and was mixed by John Fields. The LP was mastered at Sterling Sound in NYC by Chris Athens (Coldplay, Beastie Boys, NERD, etc) and features collaborations with Dan Wilson (Adele, Semisonic) and Jon Auer who also lends vocals to several tracks.

The Melismatics have found a sound all their own that is familiar yet unique, euphoric and adventurous. The Melismatics’ sound is constantly evolving and developing– as The Onion put it, “no one ever accused The Melismatics of being predictable.”

Self-Titled Album Out Now

Quotes

"YT//ST creates full-scale events, complete with eerie face-paint, monochromatic paper sets and Boredoms-style drum blasts that blend black metal and kabuki into a jaw-dropping new form. The group’s debut album is equally epic, yet it’s all just a glimpse into their master plan to freak out the squares with a stage production so large no theatre in the world could contain it." - Noisey

"the record feels wholly substantial and satisfying in its own right, and even those with no prior knowledge of YT//ST's history and elaborate intentions can just enjoy it for what it is: volcanic prog-rock colored with equal parts post-punk urgency, stoner-metal heft, and psychedelic pop whimsy." - Pitchfork

What Your Mama Really Wants-Adrenaline Mob & Kill Devil Hill at HOB Chicago

Give your mama or your babymama what she really wants for Mother's Day--a night out with mega metal musicians from Black Sabbath, Pantera,
Dream Theater, Symphony X and Disturbed--
Adrenaline Mob and Kill Devil Hill at HOB, Chicago.
Flowers die but metal lives!   ChiIL Live Shows will be there and we'll have pit photos and a show recap shortly.

Current And Former Members Of Black Sabbath, Pantera, Dream Theater, Symphony X and Disturbed All On One Stage

Adrenaline Mob and Kill Devil Hill are heading out on the road together for what will be a memorable night of hard rock musicThe run, which will be comprised of current and former members of Black Sabbath, Pantera, Dream Theater, Symphony X and Disturbed, kicks off on May 10th in Cleveland.  The tour will make stops in Dallas, Chicago and Orlando before wrapping up in Charlotte, NC on May 22.

The shows will feature Kill Devil Hill followed by Adrenaline Mob and then end in all out jam between the two groups. Special VIP Packages, including exclusive items and meet and greets will be available for each band.  Please check with the band’s respective websites for details. Adrenaline Mob is the powerhouse vocals of Russell Allen (Symphony X), the shredding guitar attack of Mike Orlando (Sonic Stomp), the rhythmic bass playing of John Moyer (Disturbed) and the drumming virtuosity of Mike Portnoy (Ex Dream Theater/Avenged Sevenfold).  Kill Devil Hill is comprised of famed bassist Rex Brown, (Pantera, Down) drum monster Vinny Appice (former drummer with Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven And Hell), guitar virtuoso Mark Zavon and vocalist Dewey Bragg.

Adrenaline Mob will be touring in support of their Elm City Records debut Omertá. The record debuted Top 5 on the Billboard Rock Album chart when it was released on March 13. The band reached #5 on the chart and also was #62 on the Billboard Top 200 selling over 6600 copies its first week.  The album has been getting amazing reviews with Revolver declaring “If you dig hard-hitting modern metal, then Adrenaline Mob’s 11-track debut offers some monstrous moments.” Adrenaline Mob formed in 2011 when Sonic Stomp founder Orlando, who had been working on a collection of songs, approached Symphony X vocalist Allen with a concept and idea for the band.  Together they joined forces and refined those ideas.  Allen then reached out to long-time friend and ex Dream Theater/Avenged Sevenfold drummer Portnoy to see if he had any interest in playing with them.  Portnoy jumped on-board and from the very first note, the chemistry and sound was apparent. In late 2011, Portnoy recruited Disturbed’s Moyer to fill the vacant bass slot and the beast that is known as Adrenaline Mob was born.

Kill Devil Hill is a super group consisting of famed bassist Rex Brown, (Pantera, Down) drum monster Vinny Appice (former drummer with Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven And Hell), guitar virtuoso Mark Zavon and vocalist Dewey Bragg.  The band are gearing up to release their self-titled debut album on May 22nd via SPV/Steamhammer.  In 2009 Vinny had found the perfect guitarist in Zavon, who was also looking to start a new band. Zavon played a demo he had recorded with vocalist Dewey Bragg, and Vinny was floored.  With the three members in place Vinny asked his long time friend Rex Brown to play bass on a demo track called “War Machine”.  Rex immediately agreed and the final puzzle piece was in place for the formation of Kill Devil Hill.

Here are ChiIL Live Shows original shots from The House of Blues-Chicago show on 2/4/2012.    It was our great pleasure to see Badfish and Scotty Don't live.    Local favorites, Midwest Hype, opened and we enjoyed a first listen to Full Service, pictured above.

It may still be winter in Chi-Town but all 4 bands made us want to dance barefoot and welcome the summer festival season in with a vengeance.    We had a chance to check out Full Service's self titled CD,  released in 2011, with 10 fun tracks including Lately, Coconuts, Hi Ho, Gymnasium, Ramona, Tasteless Gravy, Rocketships (LIVE), Hotter in the House, Trumpets & Hallways.    It may just make you wanna pack up the tent in a micro bus and hit the road!   Keep an ear out for these boys on the summer circuit.    They put on a sweet, live show.

Give them a listen at their main site, Full Service Music, here.

They're currently rockin' Austin, TX (their current home base) and just premiered their documentary, "TAKEOVER!", about their unique, determined underdog style of co-opting tours and scrambling their way up from the parking lot scene to the main stage!.   Check out the details on their Takeover!  Facebook page and website.

Home is Where The Yard Is Vol 1 is now available, too.

ChiIL Live Shows will have HD videos from that night, from all 3 bands, coming soon.   So check back like we vote in Chi, IL...early and often.   See you out there.
