ACT OUT OPENING: Stones in His Pockets at Northlight Theatre

Northlight Theatre announces
 Stones in His Pockets

Written by Marie Jones

Directed by J.R. Sullivan

A tour-de-force performance for two actors playing fifteen characters!

Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, continues its 2012-2013 season with Marie Jones’s Stones in His Pockets, directed by J.R. Sullivan, featuring Brian Vaughn and David Ivers.  The production will run at Northlight Theatre, 9501 Skokie Blvd in Skokie, through April 14, 2013.

*Stones in His Pockets received three Tony nominations for its 2001 production.

ChiIL Live Shows will be there tonight and we'll have a full review up shortly.

A couple of small town Irishmen hope to hit it big when hired as extras for an epic American movie filming in their scenic County Kerry village. Two actors portray a colorful cast of dozens in this rollicking tale that pits harsh reality against Hollywood endings.

Stones in His Pockets is presented in association with the Utah Shakespeare Festival.

BJ Jones comments, “One of the greatest pleasures in my job is the opportunity to bring old friends and colleagues to Chicago.  Northlight veteran director J.R. Sullivan, with whom I worked first in 1976, returns to direct Stones in His Pockets with Brian Vaughn and David Ivers—two versatile actors who will play 15 roles in a play that is both hilarious and heartbreaking.  David and Brian are the Artistic Directors of the Utah Shakespeare Festival and J.R. is the Artistic Director of the Pearl Theatre in New York.  With all this artistic firepower on display I am sure you will be as delighted as I am to welcome them to Northlight.”

Enslaved LIVE at Reggies #metal #originalvideo #liveshowshots

Enslaved LIVE at Reggies 2/3/13.   ChiIL Live Shows caught progressive black metal metal band, Enslaved, formed in Sveio, Norway, in June, 1991. They are currently based out of Bergen, Norway.

They played an excellent mix of old and new tunes off their recent fall 2012 release, Riitiir.

They put on an intense live show, rocking their own extreme/black/Viking/progressive metal sound.

Enslaved is Ivar Bjørnson (guitarist/backing vocals), Grutle Kjellson (growling vocals/bass), Ice Dale (guitarist), Herbrand Larsen (keyboard/clean lead vocals), and Cato Bekkevold (drums).

This talented 5 piece took the US by storm on their Winter Rite tour.   It's no wonder they've been nominated for a Norwegian Grammy 7 times!   Reggies was completely packed so I had to stay stage left and couldn't get a good angle on the drums or keyboards.

The audience was mesmerized.   I'd catch them again in a second.

Broadway in Chicago March Sizzle Reel #Broadway in Chicago

Get out and see a show in style.   Broadway in Chicago is hopping this spring with The Book of Mormon, which is one of the best shows we've seen this year if not in recent history!    We caught opening night with a couple of guys named Trey Parker and Matt Stone.   I expected it to be irreverent, but I was blown away by how relevant it was!  Book of Mormon is a no holds barred must see.

Spring also brings Jekyll & Hyde--Check out our past coverage here and also acclaimed Priscilla Queen of the Desert!

Catch Me If You Can

Theatre : Cadillac Palace Theatre, Chicago Illinois

Based on the hit DreamWorks film and the incredible true story that inspired it, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN is the high-flying, splashy new Broadway musical that tells the story of Frank W. Abagnale, Jr., a teenager who runs away from home in search of the glamorous life. With nothing more than his boyish charm, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks, Frank successfully poses as a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer - living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams. But when Frank's lies catch the attention of FBI agent Carl Hanratty, Carl chases Frank to the end...and finds something he never expected. This delightfully entertaining musical has been created by a Tony Award®-winning "dream team," with a book by Terrence McNally (The Full Monty, Ragtime), a swinging score by Marc Shaiman & Scott Wittman (Hairspray), choreography by Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray, Legally Blonde) and direction by Jack O'Brien (Hairspray, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels).

Blackhawks & LZ2-- The Blackhawks (Immigrant) Song #originalvideo #Blackhawks #LZ2

Worlds collide alert!   Here are two of our local favorites, Led Zeppelin 2 and The Chicago Blackhawks.   ChiIL Live Shows caught LZ2 at Chicago HOB the day after the Hawks broke the Ducks 06-07 "16 non loss in regulation" record for best season opening streak.   Little did we know then that The Blackhawks would continue to kick butt and increase their non-loss streak to a whopping TWENTY FOUR!

Sure, ya can't win all the time, but we back you Blackhawks.   We came to games when you had one of the worst records in the NHL, and when you won the Stanley Cup.   We still proudly wore our jerseys during both strikes.   We had sweet Bank of America box seats with a TV crew we were shooting with, and I've shot Blackhawks training camp from the front row.   We've also had SRO tickets at the top of the Madhouse on Madison, where the view sucked, but the enthusiastic fans more than made up for the ant sized action.   We've honestly had more fun with fun people at the raucous back of the house, standing or rockin' the cheap seats more times than I can count.

We'll be watching you!!
