12 YEAR OLDS HAUNTED BY HEROES TO MAKE GUEST APPEARANCE ON NBC'S " AMERICA'S GOT TALENT THIS THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

HAUNTED BY HEROES, often called “the world’s youngest rock band”, will be joining Train, Neon Trees and more on this Thursday’s “America’s Got Talent”.

These Northern California-native twelve year olds have played over 100 live performances, and have been profiles on several national news networks. The band recently recorded their debut CD with Sylvia Massy, who has also worked with such luminaries as REM, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Deftones, System of a Down, Tool and many others.

Haunted by Heroes were also recently on The Today Show, where Matt Lauer called them, “Unique, with a larger than life sound. The band has also previously been in rotation on Cartoon Network for its rendition of Aerosmith’s " Walk This Way."

Catch Haunted by Heroes next show, which will be at Hollywood’s Whisky-a-Go-Go Saturday, October 20. All ages welcome.

the CD's first music video, "Kids Those Days"

TODAY marks the release of NA NA NA, the latest from acclaimed veteran Bay Area indie Americana band BUXTER HOOT'N. And the media appreciation for the rootsy intricacies and pop sensibilities of these Cosmic American Psych-rockers is mounting. In fact, it looks like the album will finish in the Top 3 by the end of the day in MAGNET's "What Record Are You Most Looking Forward To" Poll:

”One of the most unique bands I’ve heard in a long time. … The haunting arrangements mixed with strong lyrics make for a potent concoction. … Put Buxter Hoot'n's "Na Na Na" at the top of your wish list.”
 AMERICANA REVIEW

“This EP will quietly blow you away, and then give you reason to dance around your room with an air guitar.”
CAN YOU HEAR THIS

“Ol' Buxter is dishing it out and I'm lapping it up. … Damn good straight rock.”

PSYCHEDELIC AMERICANA MARKS HEIGHTENED APPROACH
TO SHARP, ORIGINAL SOUND OF BUXTER HOOT’N

Bay Area Roots Rockers’ Six-Song EP, NA NA NA, Released TODAY

"A glimpse into the future of San Francisco's slightly psychedelic songwriting scene."
– Bay Guardian

The Bay Area indie Americana rock outfit hailed as “one of the great American bands today” (Relix) has applied a fresh grip to its Midwest roots to take its latest creative leap on its fourth release, and the result for BUXTER HOOT’N, led by brothers Vince and Jim Dewald, is NA NA NA.

The six-song EP, due for release Sept. 4, pumps the band’s enduring “Cosmic American” sound with elements of psychedelia and progressive rock to add moody, atmospheric depth to the record’s stark and poetic themes and overall innocence. BUXTER HOOT’N’s only scheduled live date in 2012 to promote NA NA NA will be a very special CD Release Party on Aug. 17 at the band’s favorite hometown club, Café du Nord in San Francisco.

Returning to a Chicago studio, not far from the brothers’ hometown of Mishawaka, Indiana, to again work with Grammy-nominated producer Greg Magers, BUXTER HOOT’N has emerged with a higher level of dense, emotionally resonant music in its latest blend of blues, rock and Americana. NA NA NA is another showcase for the band’s superb musicianship and an innovative approach to its original mandate of honoring its Midwestern roots and America’s storytelling traditions with an edgier brand of rock ’n’ roll.

BUXTER HOOT’N is marking its seventh year together with its original lineup intact – dual vocalists Vince Dewald and Melissa Merrill, bassist Jim Dewald, fiddler-guitarist Ben Andrews, and drummer Jeremy Shanok. The band made its NPR live performance debut earlier this year on the nationally syndicated Sedge Thompson’s West Coast Live. BUXTER HOOT’N’s 2011 self-titled album was a milestone for the band. Propelled by the single, “Blue Night,” Buxter Hoot’n, the album, landed in many featured album, artist categories and charts on the Indie Rock scene, with airplay on over 200 radio stations nationwide.

Ex Friends To Release 7" Sept. 18 Song Streaming Now

Ex Friends (ft. Plow United Bassist Joel Tannenbaum) To Release New 7" On Paper + Plastick Records on Sept. 18; Song Streaming Now

Philadelphia punk rockers Ex Friends (featuring Plow United bassist Joel Tannenbaum on lead vocals and guitar) have announced a new 7" release on Paper + Plastick Records set for Sept. 18. The four-song 7" is titled No Wonder We Prefer The Dark, and will contain one extra bonus track on the digital verison of the EP. A new song, "The Legend of The Holy Drinker," is now available to stream on Paper + Plastick's YouTube channel.

Recommended If You Like: Early '90s Lookout! Records punk rock influenced by bands like Husker Du, Leatherface

The band, fronted by Tannenbaum, features respected punk designer / illustrator JP Flexner on drums, bassist / vocalist Audrey Crash, and guitarist Jayme Guokas. The group began when Plow United played Philadelphia's Riot Fest in 2011 and Tannenbaum approached Flexner about working with Crash and Guokas. "Only a month and several wildly productive practices later, the newly formed Ex Friends were making plans with Arik Victor of Creep Records to record our first EP," Flexner says. "As if this little story couldn't get any cooler, friend of punk rock and all-around nice guy Vinnie Fiorello of Paper + Plastick Records agreed to release the EP, making this experience one of the few in my life where everything has worked out well - even beyond my wildest expectations."

Tannenbaum is quick to recognize the differences between his work with Plow United and Ex Friends, saying simply, "In Plow United I'm navigating. In Ex Friends I'm driving." He is quick to point out the talent surrounding him in Crash, a classically trained musician, and Guokas, who has experience recording hundreds of songs in various past bands. "In both bands I'm surrounded by amazing and talented people. When Plow United started up again, I started writing songs like crazy and it became evident pretty early on that some of them were Plow United songs and some were...something else. That turned into Ex Friends."

No Wonder We Prefer the Dark was recorded with Arik Victor from Creep Records in North Philadelphia during December 2011. It will be made available on Sept. 18 in digital and vinyl formats via Paper + Plastick Records.

ChiIL Live Shows Saturday At North Coast Music Fest #photo filled feature

Check out ChiIL Live Shows Photo Filled Recap of North Coast Music Festival 2012--Saturday

We're rockin' NCMF for the 3rd year.   Of course the people watching is prime.

We ran into old friends and made a few new ones.

Predicted thunder storms held off for the most part.   Hope we're as lucky for  Sunday.

The sets we caught were Future Rock, The Rapture,  Atmosphere, Girl Talk and Umphrey's McGhee.

We had another annual Shreddy Shirt Boy (AKA:  Mat with 1 T) Sighting!

Even the Sheeple got in on the action!!

Highlights were The Rapture, who blew away the Coast Stage with sweet sax, cow bell, and rockin' vocals reminiscent of P.I.L.  We really dug them live and would catch them again in a second.

Girl Talk wasn't as stellar as the last time I saw him, but his sets are always a big dance parTAY, and yesterday was no exception.   He hand picks dancers throughout the day, to join in on stage, so there was an enthusiastic, colorful crew of eye candy.

UM played a rockin' fest finale that was the icing on the cake.   We've watched them grow over the years from a semi-interesting, minor jam band to a force to reckon with.

NCMF hosed us this year, and instead of all access & pit photo passes like the past 2 years, we were stuck with GA.   There have been some management changes behind the scenes at NCMF and they seem to have forgotten who their friends are.   So, we don't have any close headliner shots this year--their loss.

We do, however, have loads of close pit photos of Umphrey's McGhee from Summer Camp Music Fest 2011 & 2012 we'll work up into an all UM feature and share here, with our readers.   So, if you're an old UM fan or someone new whose mind they blew last night, check back with ChiIL Live Shows like we vote in Chi, IL...early and often.   We'll have more sweet, photo filled features, tour news, free downloads, and reviews for you, in the very near future.

The line for the Groupon Silent Disco was massive.   And we didn't see too many people over doing it on the party favors to the point of needing a police escort or an ambulance ride.   We only saw a few children, less than past years, despite the official party line-- kids welcome-under age 10 free.

I must say though, the NCMF litter was crazy over the top and we hit a LOT of music festivals.    Despite a recycling nod on the NCMF site and signage, the crowd trashed Union Park and seemed to not use the garbage and recycling cans much at all!    That said, there was a huge lack of garbage cans outside of the VIP lounge and by Groupon, so people were just dropping their empty cups and food trash in piles.

We split the headliners, catching half a set of Girl Talk and half Umphrey's McGhee.   A huge, enthusiastic  crowd was gathered for both.   There were more "toys" at UM--glowing poi balls, hoops, and the ubiquitous glow finger glove wielders.

Seems like even the newbies without spinning talent can now get in people's faces and wiggle their fingers around, and find an appreciative audience.  We got some stellar hoops shots this year.

We'll be back today covering NCMF from Mathien and IndigoSky at 2:30, till the final notes of Pretty Lights fade out at 10pm.   Check out our must see list right here and our sweet Camaro SS loaner from Chevy--NCMF12 Sponsors, right here. See you out there.   And once again, check back like we vote in Chi, IL...early and often.   We'll have loads more NCMF recaps, Riot Fest previews and features, and more.
