ChiIL Live Show's Must Sees--North Coast 2012 #NCMF @northcoastfest

It's here!!   And so it begins.   North Coast Music Festival 2012.   For the next 3 days, we'll be sending summer off in style and rockin' Union Park.

*Remember, this year kids under 10 are free with a paying adult (down from 12 and under last year-boo!)    Still, they've got Riot Fest beat.   They're only admitting punk kin under 5 for free.   Boo and hiss.   So get your little hippies & house freaks outta the house and introduce them to some of your favorites before they're a bar-worthy 18+ or 21+ and would rather die than go to a music fest with their PARENTS!

3 day passes (except VIP) and Sunday single day passes are SOLD OUT.

There are so many sweet choices.    We'll be shooting all 3 days, catching a bunch of sets and even more crowd shots.  Unfortunately--Murphy's Concert Law applies and multiple bands I want to see equally badly are up against each other.   We'll see how things play out or catch some half sets.

I'm a bit old school in that it's more fun to shoot a band than a DJ--How many floating head/macbook shots can you really see before it gets boring.    I dig bands with instruments.    That said, we do plan to catch Girl Talk for sure.   We have some jam friends from back in the Grateful Dead and Phish Phreak days who are now completely obsessed with Pretty Lights.    So we may check them out live, too.    We ditched em at Summer Camp Music Festival for burlesque and Jane's Addiction, so since that's not an option here....maybe this time.

We've seen and shot both Girl Talk, Umphrey's McGee and Van Ghost (numerous times) at Summer Camp Music Festival and elsewhere and recommend catching them all this weekend.   We're especially stoked to finally catch Mathien live.   We were in the middle of a video interview with ALO and missed 'em at Summer Camp.   Mathien plays the Dos Equis Stage at 2:30 PM Sunday.   Check 'em out.

GWAR and The Casualties Comin' Our Way For Riot Fest 2012 #Riotfest

GWAR-B-Q IS HUGE SUCCESS,
PROCLAIMS MOST DANGEROUS BAND ON EARTH

A part of the crowd, which was estimated to be almost 2000 people, enjoys a little "dust-up" during a killer set from The Casualties

"Beyond our wildest dreams, and they can get pretty kinky, we were almost completely 100 % satisfied with this years GWAR-B-Q", said lead singer Oderus Urungus, reached at his Antarctic bungalo. "Everything went well, except that hottie from Attack of the Show didn't show up...but I suppose that is understandable. We did feed her to a worm last year!"

From everything to the weather (which was an enjoyable 85 degrees), to the authorities (who seemed to be enjoying themselves), to the bands ( who all put on amazing sets), all conditions were in perfect alignment and the much-anticipated event went off without a hitch...well, almost.

Slave Pit spokesman Dave Brockie had this to say about the event-"The "Meat and Beat" went great, and Oderus stayed in the area an extra three hours to make sure everybody got to hang out with their Lord and Master. It was a great line-up of great bands, and we got to see both Sleazy P. AND The Sexecutioner! It was a huge improvement over last year (when we didn't even manage to have it outside) - we made big strides this year and I am sure next year we will get even bigger and better. Rest assured any hiccups we had have been noted and will be sorted out for next year's event...so see ya at GWAR-B-Q 2013!"

Perhaps the best way to judge the success of the event is to hear it from the fans themselves-

Worth the drive down from Delaware for sure!!! Always up for GWAR especially when they bring Sexy back!!! And Ghoul kicked ass too!!
-Tom Flynn

It was still worth every second, dying of thirst or not. I was there for GWAR and to have a good time which I did. And that's all that mattered.
-Kristen Maresca

I had the greatest weekend of my life. My son and I traveled from Florida and it was worth every penny we paid!
-Lonny Amendolea

Thanks to all of the people that made this awesome event happen. GWAR is currently working on a new album, the first since the passing of longtime guitarist Cory Smoot last year. Look for an announcement soon regarding GWAR's search for a new Scumdog as GWAR prepares to debut the newest member of the GWAR tribe on this fall's "Fate or Chaos" North American tour.

Riot Fest After Party Tickets On Sale Today 8/21

RIOT FEST
ANNOUNCES AFTER-PARTY LINE-UPS FOR THE CHICAGO FESTIVAL
ON-SALE BEGINS TODAY, AUGUST 21
LIMITED NUMBER OF SINGLE-DAY TICKETS RELEASED

FEST PREPARES TO HIT BROOKLYN, TORONTO AND DALLAS FOR THE FIRST TIME

RIOT FEST–the music festival which celebrates rockindie, punk and underground artists from every era--has announced the line-ups and venues for the after-parties for the Chicago festival (see full line-ups below). The official on-sale begins today, August 21 with a limited number of single-day tickets available. All after-parties are open to 3-day pass holders (subject to capacity). Go to: www.riotfest.org.

This year’s after-parties continue a long-standing tradition unique to RIOT FEST.  "Our after-parties during Riot Fest are solely designed for fans,” explains Riot Fest founder Michael Petryshyn. “Whether it's NOFX bringing down the Congress Theater like they did a few years ago or Alkaline Trio playing a small room for their hometown Chicago fans, these afters are a big thank you to everyone who's been there since we started."

2012 is a big year for the festival, which continues to grow and marks the eighth installment of RIOT FEST’s flagship event in Chicago, as well as new stops in Brooklyn, NY (Saturday, September 8 at Williamsburg Park) Toronto, ON (Sunday, September 9Fort York at Garrison Common) and Dallas, TX (Saturday, September 22 at Gexa Energy Pavilion).  Also new for 2012: the music festival is expanding to a three-day event in Chicago and launching the festival outdoors in beautiful Humboldt Park on September 15-16.

Michael Petryshyn explains the diversity and wide-appeal of RIOT FEST artists: “We handpick all of the artists from openers to headliners. Iggy and The StoogesElvis Costello, Rise Against, Descendents--each bill represents who we are.  Every band on here from Dropkick Murphys to A Day to Remember, all the way to The Jesus and Mary Chain and Gogol Bordello, represents a unique aspect of what Riot Fest was, is and will continue to be in the future.  It’s a key goal for us to attract fans of every generation, otherwise you risk being stagnant.”

The three-day festival features artists well-known for their powerful live performances including: Rise Against, Iggy and the Stooges, Elvis Costello, Descendents, Dropkick Murphys, Coheed and Cambria, Alkaline TrioThe Jesus and Mary Chain The Gaslight Anthem, Andrew W.K. (full band), Minus The Bear, Frank Turner, A Day To Remember, Gogol Bordello, NOFX, Neon Trees, Dead Sara, Imagine Dragons, as well as new additions Cursive and Of Mice And Men, plus many more (see full lineups below).  Flanked by a handful of hip neighborhoods including Wicker Park and the Division Street corridor, Humboldt Park will feature three main music stagesthrilling ridesgamesvendors and gourmet food trucks on the park grounds with stunning views of downtown Chicago.
