We're always happy to promote the projects of our creative friends. We've known Witchbanger's guitarist, Omar (OMs) for at least 15 years and he was the tattoo artist for the dragonfly on my foot.
He also does the rockin' art for the band. We picked up one of their EPs at the show and will have a review up shortly. Like doom? Keep an ear out for Witchbanger around town.
They play and DJ at Ultra Lounge and other spaces fairly often.

We just caught Black4 last night, opening for Mondo Generator at Reggies. Come check em out on the 12th for a great cause. They had the littlest headbanger in the audience and got the crowd going.
Hey Chicago Metalheads: Reggie's Rock Club this Sunday night...be there. Come early for local favs, Witchbanger, opening. Stay for Queens of the Stone Age bassist/singer Nick Oliveri with Mondo Generator.
Mondo Generator was formed in 1997 by Queens of the Stone Age bassist/singer Nick Oliveri. Initially intended as a solo/side project, the classic “Cocaine Rodeo” album was recorded that same year, but shelved until the Southern Lord label released it and its unique brand of criminal insanity to widespread acclaim and horror in the summer of 2000. The follow-up, “A Drug Problem That Never Existed,” was released jointly in the Summer of 2003 by Ipecac/Rekords Rekords to further critical acclaim. A worldwide tour followed that was chronicled on video for the DVD release “Use Once and Destroy Me”. In 2004, Mondo Generator recorded and released “III The EP.” Oliveri began a solo acoustic career shortly after, which would see two full releases, “Demolition Day”, and 2010′s “Death Acoustic.” In 2006, Mondo Generator released “Dead Planet: SonicSlowMotionTrails” on English label Mother Tongue. It would be released worldwide the following year on Suburban Noize Records. In late 2010, Mondo Generator would be put on a back-burner as Oliveri rejoined Kyuss, re-branded as Kyuss Lives!, which also featured John Garcia, Brant Bjork, and new guitarist Bruno Fevery. In early 2012, Oliveri exited Kyuss Lives and is now concentrating full-time on Mondo Generator. The new album, “Hell Comes To Your Heart,” was released on July 3 via Mondo Media/Cobraside.

Tickets are extremely low, so check ahead if you slacked off and didn't get yours yet. ChiIL Live Shows will be there shooting stills and we'll be bringing you a video interview with lead singer, Chrigel along with our show shots.
We dig a good metal mash up....metal with strings and traditional folk instruments or a sax playing frontman like Chicago's own Yakuza. So we can not wait to hear Eluveitie LIVE.
While Eluveitie always belonged to the fastly growing European folk metal scene, they always brought some fresh wind into it: Eluveities sound is authentic, traditional Celtic folk music combined in a unique way with modern styled melodic death metal. With their new Album “Everything Remains (as it never was)” they have managed to deepen every aspect of their already inimitable style and maybe more than ever can only be described by their own description “The New Wave Of Folk Metal”.
Originally formed by mastermind Chrigel Glanzmann in Winter 2002/2003 as a mere studio project, the first MCD “Vên” was recorded in spring 2003 – already unique in it’s way of having folkmusic on an equal footing with the metal sound. . The self-financed MCD was ardently received by scene and press and sold out within a few months. In 2004 Eluveitie signed to the Dutch label Fear Dark Records, which released a re-mastered (and partly re-recorded) version of “Vên”, and continued as a “real” band, playing gigs together with bands such as Finntroll, Amon Amarth, Korpiklaani, Ensiferum and many others while touring Europe and playing many festivals & openairs.
Although some line-up changes still had to happen, Eluveitie grew into being a band and developed their very own style. In late 2005 Eluveitie was finally ready to enter the studio again and record their first full-lenght album “Spirit”, which was again released through Fear Dark Records. Furthermore a videoclip for the Song “Of Fire, Wind & Wisdom” was produced in Summer 2006, directed by Martin Schäppi, Merlin Sutter & Chrigel Glanzmann / Eluveitie. With “Spirit” Eluveitie went a big step forward, presenting a completely new style of Folk Metal to the scene – starting a new wave of Folk Metal! While the album was turning out to be a huge success, the band toured their asses off again.
Yet whilst touring and playing many festivals like the Graspop Metal Meeting (Belgium) or Summerbreeze Open Air (Germany), Eluveitie already began to work on new material for the succesive album. Finally in Fall 2007 the new album “Slania” was recorded in different studios in Sweden, Switzerland & Liechtenstein, produced, mixed & mastered by Jens Bogren (Amon Amarth, Opeth & more) at the Fascination Street Studios in Orebrö/SE (www.fascinationstreet.se). Having recorded nothing less than the perfection of their very own style, Eluveitie now was in the lucky Situation to receive many offers from almost every known label in metal music & ended up signing with the well-known German record company Nuclear Blast Records, where a new home was found under perfect conditions….
After some talks & the production of a new videoclip (again produced & directed by Merlin Sutter & Martin Schäppi) a release date was set for february 2008. “Slania” turned out to become a breakthrough (chart entries in Switzerland: #35 and Germany: #72) and the band was getting busy taking over the world in 2008 – with appearances at most of the bigger european summer festivals as well as two USA/Canada tours and three European tours within only 12 (!) months.
But never being lazy, Eluveitie worked out new material while touring and was ready to enter the studio again in December 2008! Their follow-up album to “Slania” should become something special – for it is the bands first purely acoustic album (and part I of a two-pieced acoustic concept). “Evocation I – the arcane dominion” was released in April 2009 and turned out to become a real gem of folkmusic and again became a huge success (#20 in the swiss album charts). More tours all over Europe & North America followed as well as their first show in Russia.
Now, after three full length albums and over 250 shows in over 30 countries, Eluvetie is ready to conquer the rest of the world & unleash their latest Masterpiece: When the first ten years of the new millenium have passed, Chrigel and his gang will present the perfect ELUVEITIE album. It has everything their fans and not-yet-fans are asking for: fascinating ancient melodies and stories, bonebreaking, heavy but still danceable death metal and huge choruses that will appeal to all kind of metalheads. „
"Everything Remains“ simply continues where "Slania“ left off taking the bands fresh and unique sound to the next higher level. And this album of course demanded the best treatment there is, so the band hired an army of legends to put the finishing touches to this masterpiece of folk metal: Tommy Vetterli (Kreator, Coroner, a.o.) to engineer and co-produce the album, Colin Richardson (Slipknot, Machine Head, Behemoth, Trivium, a.o.) to mix it and John Davis (U2, Led Zeppelin, Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys, a.o.) for mastering duties. …and the new wave of folk metal goes on…
The last time Eluveitie came through Chi-Town and played Bottom Lounge, we shot their openers, Revocation (another of our favs), but had another show to shoot and had to split out and miss Eluveitie. I made sure that wouldn't happen again!
ChiIL Live Shows--Revocation opening for Eluveitie at Bottom Lounge February 2012.
The First Year EP Available November 27th on Standby Records
Modern metal music, much like the music of every genre from every era, is not created for the mere thrill of being heard on some radio in some town around the globe. With musicians who truly understand their gift of creating music, the only goal is to paint aural pictures that will stimulate or influence the listeners in some way, shape or form. For even a smaller collection of the most elite musicians, their creations create wonderment on the minds of their fans and followers. Ladies and gentlemen, meet WHISPERS OF WONDER.
November 27th will see the debut EP release from WHISPERS OF WONDERentitled The First Year. Today the band is exclusively premiering the track "Attempt to no Avail".
The band commented on the track:
"Attempt to no Avail" is about facing a challenge that you cannot seem you overcome, and about finding the courage and strength within yourself to be strong and hold on to what you know is right."
Get a first listen to the song courtesy of Substream Music Press HERE. The standard version of the EP is available for pre-order HERE. A bundle package including an exclusive t-shirt can be pre-ordered HERE.
Hailing from Portland, Oregon, WHISPERS OF WONDER create a new form and style of music they classify as "melodic wondercore". The description couldn't be more dead on. Featuring musical excellence and an uncanny way to reach deep into the souls of every listener through song, WHISPERS OF WONDER have been growing a massive fan base in Portland and beyond since their inception less than a year ago. In this short time, they have captured the ears of many of the top record labels out today, before signing with America's hottest modern metal label today, Standby Records.
The brilliant vocals of Lukkie Thornton draw the listener close while the guitars of Chree Thornton and Tristen Warren pepper their sound of delicious wondercore to a whole new musical level of excellence. The three of them ride the rock solid foundation of Calin Wormdahl on drums and Austin Shaner on bass to create the most intricate, balanced and musically mesmerizing sound heard in recent memory.
The Sniper the new release from SCELERATA will undoubtedly turn heads, forcing metal icons to watch their rearview mirrors as these guys pull up fast with the nitrous afterburners firing! Testosterone infused, melodic power metal best describes their music, though there are also many moments showing a progressive edge and showcasing immense vocal talent.
The Sniper presents a stunning vocal performance from Fabio Juan, showing a much more matured band that delivers a heavier more aggressive sound, beautifully mixing power metal and melodic progressive elements ranging from angst ridden lyrics of corruption to sorrowful love lost. The huge and intricate production makes this album a must hear for any true metal fan.
The Sniper was produced, mixed and mastered by Charlie Bauerfeind with guitarist Renato Osorio. The album also features Andi Deris (Helloween) and Paul Di'Anno (ex-Iron Maiden) as very special guests, who not only sing but helped compose and co-write the songs.
SCELERATA got their start with their debut Darkness & Light which was released in 2006. It was mixed and mastered by Dennis Ward and featured guest appearances by Renato Borghetti (Accordeon), Edu Falaschi (Angra) and Thiago Bianchi (Shaman).
The band followed up with their sophomore release Skeletons Domination in 2008. This effort was mixed and mastered by Charlie Bauerfeind (Helloween, Blind Guardian, Rage, Saxon, Halford, Hammerfall, Motorhead).
Performing with giant names in rock and metal over the last decade, the band is looking forward to hitting the road soon on their own headlining tours. Austrian power metallers DRAGONY will release their debut album Legends, tomorrow on Limb Music. Today the band is giving fans a sneak peak to listen to the entire album one day before it is released. Get a first listen HERE, courtesy of AOL Music's Full Album Listening Party Series.
What first began as a project in the idyllic alpine republic has solidified into a real band. Everyone knows that Austrians don't do things half-heartedly and it was only to be expected that the former DRAGONSLAYER PROJECT had evolved into a solid lineup by 2008. Since then the road led ever upwards for the six lads from Vienna.
Being professional enough to recognize that the band name was a bit bulky, they changed it to DRAGONY in 2011 and continued their march forward. Their excellently produced debut album comprised of melodic, symphonic power metal with traditional character which stands up well against comparisons with the productions of long-standing international acts.
So it is also no wonder that the DRAGONY musicians have become well known on the Austrian circuit. Legendscombines the entire know-how of the six lads in ten songs, which span sounds from tough heaviness to high-powered melody lines. Overall, Legends can be summed up as high quality, symphonic power metal with ass-kicking melody inserts, powerful guitars and lyrics with insight.
The work on the debut album lasted until the end of 2011, but for good reasons: They had been able to talk numerous guest musicians into contributing their skills, for example Tom Tieber of Ecliptica, Katie Joanne of Siren's Cry and naturally Ralf Scheepers of Primal Fear, all of whom give their best on the album, as do many other guest musicians from the Austrian scene. And it is exactly because of these additional performances by their guests, that the material retains a certain rock opera character. Fine-tuning the result was carried out by Mika Jussila during his wonderful mastering work in the Finnvox Studios in Helsinki.
Legends unites a powerful wall of guitars with huge choruses in songs, which are predominantly kept in mid-tempo style. The impressive, charismatic voice of Siegfried "The Dragonslayer" Samer, is hugely admirable, with its incredible volume driving every song forward. After a classical intro,DRAGONY get down to business with "Burning Skies", a bone-shaking, fast power metal number with a great rhythm, gilded by the exceptional voice of Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear). After an ass-kicking headbanger beat in the first third of "Land Of Broken Dreams", the guitar duo Andreas Poppernitsch and Daniel Stockinger continue with brilliant riffs, clearly influenced by Avantasia and Hammerfall. This is pure steel being hammered into shape! The rather epic and theatrically configured "The Longest Night" changes speed and feeling during its entire playing time, making the track extremely varied. Of course, as far as DRAGONY's overall sound goes, one finds similarities with bands such as Edguy, Kamelot, Sabaton and Stratovarius, bands with unforgettable, attainable, melodic elements, somewhere between traditional, classical heavy metal and epically configured song structures.Legends and its high quality will not disappoint any fan of those bands - this album is far too good for that! Legends Tracklisting: 1) Of Legends... 2) Burning Skies 3) Land of Broken Dreams 4) Dragonslayer 5) Wings of the Night 6) Vaults of Heaven 7) The Longest Night 8) Hero's Return 9) The Ride 10) Alcador DRAGONY Lineup: Frederic Brünner - Drums Andreas Poppernitsch - Guitars Georg Lorenz - Keyboards Siegfried Samer - Vocals Herbert Glos - Bass Daniel Stockinger - Guitars
Give your mama or your babymama what she really wants for Mother's Day--a night out with mega metal musicians from Black Sabbath, Pantera, Dream Theater, Symphony X and Disturbed--Adrenaline Mob and Kill Devil Hill at HOB, Chicago.Flowers die but metal lives! ChiIL Live Shows will be there and we'll have pit photos and a show recap shortly.
Current And Former Members Of Black Sabbath, Pantera, Dream Theater, Symphony X and Disturbed All On One Stage
Adrenaline Mob and Kill Devil Hill are heading out on the road together for what will be a memorable night of hard rock music. The
run, which will be comprised of current and former members of Black
Sabbath, Pantera, Dream Theater, Symphony X and Disturbed, kicks off on
May 10th in Cleveland. The tour will make stops in Dallas,
Chicago and Orlando before wrapping up in Charlotte, NC on May 22.
The
shows will feature Kill Devil Hill followed by Adrenaline Mob
and then end in all out jam between the two groups. Special VIP
Packages, including exclusive items and meet and greets will be
available for each band. Please check with the band’s respective
websites for details. Adrenaline Mob is the powerhouse
vocals of Russell Allen (Symphony X), the shredding guitar attack of
Mike Orlando (Sonic Stomp), the rhythmic bass playing of John Moyer
(Disturbed) and the drumming virtuosity of Mike Portnoy (Ex Dream
Theater/Avenged Sevenfold). Kill Devil Hill is
comprised of famed bassist Rex Brown, (Pantera, Down) drum monster Vinny
Appice (former drummer with Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven And Hell),
guitar virtuoso Mark Zavon and vocalist Dewey Bragg.
Adrenaline Mob will be touring in support of their Elm City Records debut Omertá.The
record debuted Top 5 on the Billboard Rock Album chart when it was
released on March 13. The band reached #5 on the chart and also was #62
on the Billboard Top 200 selling over 6600 copies its first week. The
album has been getting amazing reviews with Revolver declaring “If you
dig hard-hitting modern metal, then Adrenaline Mob’s 11-track debut
offers some monstrous moments.” Adrenaline Mob formed
in 2011 when Sonic Stomp founder Orlando, who had been working on a
collection of songs, approached Symphony X vocalist Allen with a concept
and idea for the band. Together they joined forces and refined those
ideas. Allen then reached out to long-time friend and ex Dream
Theater/Avenged Sevenfold drummer Portnoy to see if he had any interest
in playing with them. Portnoy jumped on-board and from the very first
note, the chemistry and sound was apparent. In late 2011, Portnoy
recruited Disturbed’s Moyer to fill the vacant bass slot and the beast
that is known as Adrenaline Mob was born.
Kill Devil Hill is a super group consisting of famed bassist Rex
Brown, (Pantera, Down) drum monster Vinny Appice (former drummer with
Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven And Hell), guitar virtuoso Mark Zavon and
vocalist Dewey Bragg. The band are gearing up to release their
self-titled debut album on May 22nd via SPV/Steamhammer. In 2009 Vinny
had found the perfect guitarist in Zavon, who was also looking to start a
new band. Zavon played a demo he had recorded with vocalist Dewey
Bragg, and Vinny was floored. With the three members in place Vinny
asked his long time friend Rex Brown to play bass on a demo track called
“War Machine”. Rex immediately agreed and the final puzzle piece was
in place for the formation of Kill Devil Hill.
A metal band. From the Chicago land area. They formed in 2010
to create a mixture of traditional Thrash/Death Metal with old school
Hardcore and made a new mix. If you are a fan of Obituary, Cannibal
Corpse, DRI, Slayer, Deicide, Pantera, Pestilence, Lamb of God,
Possessed and Death, then you will like the fast hard hitting beats,
riffs and vocals that they produce. They are an In Your Face band that
will be sure to melt your face in the pit.

Biography on iTunes
Boston,
MA trio Revocation is comprised of vocalist/guitarist David Davidson,
vocalist/bassist Anthony Buda, and drummer Phil Dubois-Coyne — all of
whom showcase incredible dexterity at their chosen instruments, even by
heavy metal standards, and came together as a group in 2005. Armed with a
super-technical thrash/death metal style prizing virtuosity as much as
heaviness and aggression, the group soon began attracting A&R men
from numerous labels with their self-released Summon the Spawn EP (2006)
and Empire of the Obscene album (2008). They eventually decided to sign
with Relapse Records, and delivered their second full-length, Existence
Is Futile, in September 2009, also to very positive reviews. Buy/Download Chaos of Forms and Revocation's past 2 CDs here.
