Survay Says! is a 6-piece ska/pop punk band from a small town called Blairstown, NJ. Originally forming in 2008 by brothers Henry & D.Jay Menzel, Survay Says! has spent the last 4 years honing their craft to bring listeners the horn-driven sound ska fans crave along with the high speed energy of pop punk. If there is one word that could sum up an SS! set, that word would be "fun", and that's exactly what the band strives for.
Considered by many to be one of the hardest working self-managed bands on the East Coast, Survay Says has supported national acts such as Less Than Jake, the Wonder Years, Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto, and Bowling for Soup. Survay Says tours extensively, playing 208 shows in 2013 including a month-long run with Big D and the Kid’s Table and Red City Radio which took them to Fest 12 in Gainesville, FL. 2014 promises to be just as intense; Signed to Asbestos Records, Survay Says has already completed a two month full US tour to support the release of our new album "Observations of the Human Condition", a month long tour of the US and Canada as direct support to Reel Big Fish, and a scond full US tour since the beginning of April this year. Thinking of ducking out of a day job early on Friday? As sad as we are that GWAR is now Brockieless, they're still well worth getting to Riot Fest early for (4:15 early in fact). They're kicking off a sick string of our favorites on the Rebel stage: GWAR, Clutch, Mastodon & Slayer! Come rage with ChiIL Live Shows.
You just have to see GWAR to believe em. They defy definition. They're some of the most colorful metal monsters out there and so are their fans by the end of the show. Are you ready to get wet?! Some of my all time favorite original Riot Fest shots came from the aftermath of a GWAR set in 2012. I didn't want to risk my gear on the front lines, so I lurked stage right and caught all the crowd surfers as they emerged.

Oderus is missing. Once the Scumdogs in GWAR finally notice this (it takes them a while to notice stuff) they will set off on a journey to find their departed brother using every resource available - including recruiting an ancient Scumdog warrior. GWAR will need the help from everyone, even the lowliest Bohab, as their enemies are plotting to take advantage of the hole in GWAR's ranks.

"Dark clouds of war and ill omen have gathered around GWAR. In our hour of greatest peril, Oderus has left us and our enemies stand poised, ready to strike while they sense weakness. But we shall no longer cower in our Antarctic stronghold, awaiting Destiny's final blow. This Fall GWAR sets out on the most trying quest of our career. We shall scour our leader's favorite stomping ground, North America, leaving no city unsearched, no venue unraised, and no sheep unmolested. GWAR will venture to the depths of Hell or to the very end of Time itself, and though I fear what we may encounter out there, I know that we can never return home until we have the answer we seek: 'Where is Oderus Urungus?'"
GWAR fans have been mourning the loss of Dave Brockie, GWAR's founder and lead singer, since March. The "GWAR Eternal Tour 2014" gives them an opportunity to gather and share a bunch of feels as a community while experiencing the sickest band in this or any other world.

The first leg of the tour will include direct support from Decapitated; the second leg will have direct support from Corrosion of Conformity. American Sharks will open all shows. The band takes the Radical Stage at 1:30! Shredding their way through the NYC rock scene, Team Spirit have proven they mean business. Lead singer Ayad Al Adhamy (former synth player in Passion Pit) rediscovered his love for the guitar and rock-and-roll. After a successful EP, Team Spirit play a few shows in the lead up to their highly anticipated debut LP Killing Time out 9/30 on Vice/Warner Bros. Records. Team Spirit bring us another dose of comic relief with their video for "Surrender" from their upcoming debut LP Killing Time. This time around, the band are shown as Crank Yankers reminiscent puppets who would do just about anything to have a hit song including sell their souls to the devil. Suddenly, the band embarks in a shred-fest to prove to the adorably sinister devil that they are totally serious about their willingness to surrender their souls. The amazingly directed video makes its debut appropriately on AV Club.
The band's last video "Teenage Heart" is nominated for MTVU's The Freshman, where users can vote for the video they want to see get on air. Vote here for "Teenage Heart" before polls close Friday, Sept. 12th at 2/1c.
After tours with Peace, Surfer Blood and Skaters, Team Spirit will return to the stage this Fall performing at Riot Fest in Chicago as well as a hometown album release show October 1st at Baby's All Right. More than just a frontman, Ayad Al-Adhamy plays the team captain. One of the most exciting new bands to come along in some time. If you're a fan of artists like Kate Bush, Bjork, NIN, the Knife, Mirah or post-apocalyptic gypsy punk, this is a don't-miss band. Early supporters include Skrillex, Marilyn Manson and Amy Lee of Evanscence. If you like discovering something exciting, daring, off-the-wall and maybe a little ahead of the curve, then this is the band to check out.
And yes. Yes we do dig post-apocalyptic gypsy punk, Siouxsie Sioux, NIN, Bjork and Kate Bush.

Slayer has just entered the studio to record its first album since 2011's critically-acclaimed, Grammy-winning World Painted Blood. This is an album of firsts - the band's first album without Jeff Hanneman, the first album to be released on the band's own label (through Nuclear Blast), and Slayer's first since 2001's God Hates Us Allwith returning drummer Paul Bostaph.
Slayer surprised its fans back in April by making a brand new song available as a free download - "Implode" - written by Kerry King. You can check out "Implode" HERE. The new album is expected out in early 2015.
For Chicago's RiotFest performance, Slayer will be joined by guitarist Gary Holt who continues to fill in for Hanneman.

Their membership in "The Big Four" - Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax - the four bands that defined the thrash/metal genre - secures their place in music history. ChiIL Mama was stoked to be back at Cirque Shanghai for the fifth year, to shoot and review at the press opening last week. It's become one of our favorite annual shows, and we were stoked to see many of their breathtaking signature acts are back again, along with new Warrior themed choreography.
Both of my kids and two of their friends were able to catch the show and the kids and I all dug it.
We recommend Warriors as a fun, affordable, all ages treat and we've added them to our ChiIL Picks List.

ChiIL Mama's ChiIL Tips: 1. Check out the merch table. Seriously. Compared to most circuses where a sno cone will seriously set you back, Cirque Shanghai's merch is downright affordable! We got a cool half mask for $3 and the full face masks are just $5. Same goes for the big, red fans. They're a steal at $5. Be forewarned, this may be the loudest fan EVER. They snap open with a thwack and are waaaaaay more than $5 worth of fun. 3 of the 4 kids with me that night got them, and before we'd even left Navy Pier, they had choreographed fan routines worked up. We're all about toys that inspire creativity!
The fans also double as a keepsake and a great place to collect signatures of the performers who are happy to sign after the show.
If you're opposed to loud noised while driving, DO secure the fans before take off. I don't mind as long as there's no high pitched tween shrieking. That's where I draw the line.My daughter & her 2 friends had a fabulous time all the way home, belting out Eye of the Tiger and Crazy Train accompanied by frequent fan snapping.
2. Catch the show on a Wed or Sat and stay for the free fireworks. They're short and sweet but they're a colorful, fun way to cap off the evening and happen shortly after the show. Go for the evening show any Wed-Sat night and Navy Pier and the Chicago skyline look magical after dark!
We embrace the multicultural, here at ChiIL Mama, so we're listing their acts with the Chinese names as well as the English. Pretty cool, huh? (Your kids can practice their calligraphy.)
Speaking of Chinese characters, my kids are wondering what the wonderful fans they got at the show say. Anyone who can translate, please let us know in the comments section. I'm picking up a friend coming from O'Hare on Friday afternoon, who has been teaching in China for years, so if nobody has replied by then, I'll run it by her and share our findings!

Now in its ninth consecutive summer season at the Pepsi® Skyline Stage, this latest installment of “Cirque Shanghai” combines the impressive acrobatics audiences have enjoyed in the past with the martial prowess of Chinese Kung Fu and Wu Shu masters. The result is powerful display of athleticism and the mastery of disciplines that formed the backbone of military might in ancient China for thousands of years.
This summer’s production of “Cirque Shanghai: Warriors” brings an extraordinary line-up of thrilling acts to the stage, including The Kinetic Poles, the powerful Water Meteor and the heart-pounding Pageant of Arms. Returning to the production from last year is the fate-tempting “Wheel of Destiny,” and China’s premier daredevil steel-globe motorcycle troupe, “Imperial Thunder”.

ABOUT THE CREATIVE TEAM
International Special Attractions (ISA) was established in 1996 and over the past two decades has become a world leader in the production of large scale special attractions, events and theatrical productions. In addition to presenting Cirque Shanghai, ISA was the first company to bring Chinese acrobats to Broadway. For the past two years, ISA has presented The Ice Kingdom, a 14,000 square foot experience made entirely of ice, at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. ISA’s other ICE! attractions are mounted annually at four Gaylord Hotel locations throughout the United States, and are enjoyed by over 1 million people each year. ISA also produces Luminasia, the larger-than-life lantern attraction, which was seen last year at the Washington State Fair, and for the past four years at The Galt House Hotel in Louisville, KY. Drawing from his classical music background, Haiping Ge was one of the earliest producers serving in the Shanghai government’s Office of Cultural Exchange Affairs. From that office, he hosted many of the first Western entertainers performing in China.
For the last two decades, Haiping Ge has been producing shows with ISA for the world’s premium venues. His current productions include: Cirque Shanghai for New Victory Theatre on Broadway; ICE! Attractions in Dallas, Nashville, Orlando and Washington D.C. in association with Gaylord Resorts; Luminasia at The Galt House in Louisville, KY, USA. Haiping also produced a Chinese acrobatic show for Disney World, Florida which will run through the end of this year.
Miao Chen is a second-generation performer as well as the show’s director. She studied with the internationally famous Shenyang Performing Arts Academy beginning at age five, and joined the acclaimed Shenyang Acrobatic Troupe, one of the top ten troupes in all of China, at age 13. Chen is the recipient of a Gold Lion Award from the International Acrobatics Competition in France, and received the top award for Best Innovative Performance in Uruguay. Chen has performed throughout the USA, Canada, Europe and Asia. In 2006 and 2007, Chen worked as a choreographer for “Le Grand Cirque” which has toured in cities across Australia, the United Kingdom and United States. Chen previously directed hit productions of “Cirque Shanghai” in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
