Chi, IL LIVE Shows On Our Radar:

TICKETS NOW ON SALE!

FEATURING WORLD-CHAMPION BEATBOXER BALL-ZEE
FIVE DAYS ONLY!
DEC. 5 – DEC. 10, 2017

Here at ChiIL Mama & ChiIL Live Shows we can't wait to check out Gobsmacked! as we enjoy both a cappella and beatboxing and can't do either ourselves. This is sure to be a unique show.

Broadway In Chicago and Nic Doodson, producer and creator of GOBSMACKED!, are delighted to announce that individual tickets for the sensational, next-generation a cappella show, GOBSMACKED!, are now on sale. GOBSMACKED! will begin its first US tour set to play 120 performances throughout North America . The tour will play Broadway In Chicago's Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 E. Chestnut) for a limited five-day engagement December 5 through December 10, 2017.

GOBSMACKED! will feature performers such as  world-champion beatboxer Ball-Zee, the three-time winner of the UK Beatbox Champion. Joining Ball-Zee will be a myriad of musical talent including Marcus Collins, the 2011 runner up in the UK version of “The X-Factor,” acclaimed Norwegian singer and pianist Monika Sik-Holm, UK stage actress Emilie Louise Israel, West End actor Nick Hayes, and Joanne Evans and Ed Scott who have performed with GOBSMACKED! since its inception.

ABOUT GOBSMACKED!
Direct from sell-out seasons in London, Hong Kong and Edinburgh comes a mind-blowing vocal show that redefines the human voice.  Featuring the reigning world-champion beatboxer, Ball-Zee, and an international cast of world-class vocalists, GOBSMACKED! weaves stories through all forms of a cappella from traditional street corner harmonies to cutting-edge, multi-track live looping.

Critics in the UK call GOBSMACKED! "entertainment, not to be missed," (Broadway Baby) and “better than Glee…mesmerizing,” (EdFest Magazine).  Audiences will experience heart-stopping singing and jaw-dropping beatboxing in this latest break-out show that everyone is talking about –it’s funny, joyful and uplifts the spirits of all ages!

Though one of the oldest forms of music, a cappella singing has only recently broken through to mainstream popularity. Movies such as Pitch Perfect, TV shows such as Glee and groups like Pentatonix, Straight No Chaser and Naturally 7 have catapulted a cappella from street corners to stadiums.  The producers of GOBSMACKED! have created a show for the whole family that takes the audience on a journey through music.  GOBSMACKED! not only showcases modern a cappella at its best but also tells an urban tale of love, loss and redemption.

Executive Producer and Creator Nic Doodson, Director Alexandra Spencer-Jones and Musical Director and Co-Creator Jack Blume bring this unique musical experience to life after representing some of the most exciting a cappella and theatrical talent of the last few years.  They have worked with artists such as Daft Punk, Britney Spears, Jose Carreras, Buena Vista Social Club and Soweto Gospel Choir and have produced and directed shows in venues such as the O2 Arena in London and The Sydney Opera House.

OPENING: Graeme of Thrones Parody Comes to Broadway Playhouse November 1st-15th

The dates have shifted forward a bit since we first began promoting this show waaaaaay back in March. It's nearly here and we couldn't be more excited. We adored Potted Potter and the adults in our family are also huge Game of Thrones freaks. Can't wait to catch this one!

*Do note, the show does contain adult content...
Duh! It's a GOT parody people.*

FROM THE PRODUCER OF POTTED POTTER
GRAEME OF THRONES
TO PLAY CHICAGO’S BROADWAY PLAYHOUSE AT WATER TOWER PLACE
 NOVEMBER 1- 15, 2016

The hilarious original parody GRAEME OF THRONES will play the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 E. Chestnut) November 1-15th, 2016.

Created by a team of some of the UK’s top comedy writers, GRAEME OF THRONES is an original and un-authorized parody on the international phenomenon that is Game Of Thrones. A treat for fans and an introduction for the unenlightened.

CASTING FOR CHICAGO ENGAGEMENT OF GRAEME OF THRONES

Original cast members Ali Brice (Graeme) and Libby Northedge (Bryony) are joined by Michael Condron (Paul), who has appeared in Seasons 5 and 6 of GAME OF THRONES as Bowen Marsh.

In this critically-acclaimed theatrical journey through the Seven Kingdoms, direct from sold out shows in London’s West End, avid ‘Thrones’ fan Graeme just wants to recreate his favorite fantasy saga on stage - aided and abetted by his best friend Paul and the girl he used to fancy at school - Bryony.

He doesn’t quite have the same budget as the TV show, or as many cast members, or the performance skill required, but he’s sure George RR Martin would approve – and that’s what matters. But when news reaches them that an influential theatrical producer is in the building, Graeme decides that this could be his big break - as long as nothing goes wrong...

CAST BIOGRAPHIES
ALI BRICE (Graeme) is a character comedian and actor. Performing since 2009, Brice creates very silly, vividly-coloured worlds full of very silly, larger-than-life characters. In 2014 Brice took Eric Meat Wants to Go Shopping to the Edinburgh Fringe to critical acclaim. He is a member of the London-based alternative comedy collective Weirdos. Ali was in the original Graeme Of Thrones cast in London’s West End and has since gone on to tour the UK and Australia with the show.

LIBBY NORTHEDGE (Bryony) has worked as both a performer and director with notable companies including Punchdrunk, NIE, BBC, Sky Arts. Libby is one half of clown and character sketch duo Twisted Loaf. In 2013 they won the prestigious Funny Women Award and have since had two smash hit Edinburgh Festival shows that have both transferred to the West End. They wrote and starred in their own short film for Sky and are currently in development for a TV series. Libby is a regular improviser, having spent the summer of 2012 performing with IO and Second City in Chicago. Libby was in the original cast of Graeme Of Thrones in London’s West End and has toured with the show across the UK and in Australia.

MICHAEL CONDRON (Paul) performs regularly at Belfast Lyric Theatre and his credits include:
39 Steps, Smiley, Hee Comes the Night, Macbeth and Much ado About Nothing, Jhn Bulls Other Island, The Miser by Moliere adapted By David Johnston. Michael performed with the Boat Factory, off Broadway, Kings Head Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe Festival with other Local and Regional tours. He has worked with many other venues and touring companies in the UK and Ireland, including Mirandolina (Manchester Royal Exchange) Mojo Mickybo (lyric Hammersmith) Borderland (7:84 Theatre Co), Da (Art NI) Revnge, Lally the Scut (Theatre Co), Oh what a Lovely War, Threepenny Opera, Blue Remembered Hills, The Government Inspector (Bruiser Theatre Co).

COMING TO THE BROADWAY PLAYHOUSE AT

THROUGH OCTOBER 12

ChiIL Live Shows will be there... will YOU?! Want a musical that'll send chills up your spine? Want to have a bloody good time in the splatter zone?! Of course you do. Come on out for some kitschy blood bath fun. We'll be there to review opening night so check back like we vote in Chi, IL... early and often. (Not recommended for the 12 & under set).

Broadway In Chicago is thrilled to announce the cast and creative team for Evil Dead - The Musical, winner of the 2007 Dora Audience Choice Award as Toronto’s favorite show, which will bring mayhem and fun to the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 E Chestnut) for a limited three-week engagement Sept. 23 through Oct. 12, 2014.

“We’re excited to showcase a cast full of Chicagoans at the Broadway Playhouse,” said Corey Ross, president of Starvox Entertainment.  “Don’t miss this show to see an unforgettable, hilarious transformation splattered with evil fun.”

Evil Dead – The Musical will feature a cast full of Chicagoans including Julie Baird, Callie Johnson, Ryan McBride, David Sajewich, Creg Sclavi, Demi Zaino and Toronto native Andrew Di Rosa.

Evil Dead - The Musical, the hilarious, record-breaking Canadian musical, George Reinblatt (Book & Lyrics), Frank Cipolla (Music), Melissa Morris (Music) and Christopher Bond (Direction & Music), tells the outrageous story of five college friends spending the weekend in an abandoned cabin in the woods after accidentally unleashing an evil force that turns them all into demons.

The production is choreographed by Stacey Renee Maroske with music direction by Aaron Eyre, and features scenic design by Lindsay Anne Black, costume design by Claudia Kada, lighting design by Gareth Crew and sound design by Michael Laird.  Evil Dead – The Musical is produced by Starvox Entertainment in association with Jeffrey Latimer Entertainment.

Those familiar with Evil Dead - The Musical will remember that audience members sitting in the designated “Splatter Zone” (the first four rows) get covered in fake blood as the production incorporates some fun ‘real-life’ effects during certain scenes. In addition to some dismembered limbs, demons telling bad jokes, and catchy tunes (“Look Who’s Evil Now”, “All the Men in My Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons”), the show features a saucy combination of wit and sexual innuendo that keeps audiences laughing out loud.

About Evil Dead - The Musical
This musical first glimpsed the light of day in Toronto, where early workshop engagements played to capacity and beyond. While local mainstream theatre audiences flocked to the show, diehard fans of the Evil Dead film series made pilgrimages from across North America to witness the birth of a new cult hit. The popular workshop production enjoyed two sold-out runs at Toronto’s Tranzac Club in 2003 before heading off to Montreal in 2004 as part of the 22nd Just For Laughs Festival.  It opened off-Broadway at New World Stages in November 2006 and was produced by Jenkay LLC, Jeffrey Latimer Entertainment and Just for Laughs Live. Evil Dead - The Musical returned to Toronto in 2007 for a record-breaking run of more than 300 performances at the now defunct Diesel Playhouse. The production enjoyed a hugely successful remount at Toronto’s Randolph Theatre in the fall of 2013. This production is now on its latest American tour.

GEORGE REINBLATT (Book and Lyrics, Co-Composer) is a comedy writer whose credits are so varied, he literally needs a bio to list them all. Luckily for you, this is that bio. George has written jokes for the last six Comedy Central Roasts including the “Roast of James Franco” and the highly rated “Roast of Charlie Sheen.” George was a writer for two seasons on Comedy Central’s “The Burn with Jeff Ross.” He has also written comedy for the likes of Steve Martin, Tina Fey, John Cleese, Craig Ferguson, Andre-Philippe Gagnon, and even Kelly Ripa.  George was the head writer for two “MuchMusic Video Awards” writing for LMFAO, Psy, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Flo Rida and many more.  He was a contributing writer for “The Arsenio Hall Show.”  He has also worked as a writer on “Rick Mercer’s Monday Report,” “Canada’s Walk of Fame,” “Match Game” and “George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight.” Evil Dead – The Musical is George’s first stage production.

FRANK CIPOLLA (Co-Composer, Music Supervision).   I'm one of those people who always have a song in my head.  As a kid, I was constantly banging pencils or forks to some cerebral rhythm, until my parents bought me a drum set (and ear plugs for themselves).  I loved making up songs for my dog.  Then one day I got a blank canvas to unload all of these sonic nuggets that had been brewing in my head for decades. No idea was too ridiculous; no chord change too strange.  And what came out was Evil Dead-The Musical. And the catharsis was complete.  I hope you enjoy listening to the show as much as I loved making it. BTW – my dog really likes the show.

ACT OUT: Save The Dates BUYER & CELLAR to Play Broadway Playhouse in April #BroadwayInChicago

THE SMASH HIT COMEDY
COMES TO CHICAGO APRIL 2014

STARRING MICHAEL URIE
2013 DRAMA DESK AWARD WINNER

“THE MOST TALKED ABOUT NEW COMEDY OF THE SEASON”
-- Ben Brantley, THE NEW YORK TIMES

Broadway In Chicago is thrilled to announce that the hit off-Broadway comedy BUYER & CELLAR, starring Michael Urie, written by Jonathan Tolins and directed by Stephen Brackett, will play Chicago for a limited engagement beginning April 29, 2014 at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 E. Chestnut).  Daryl Roth, Producer of Tony Award-winning “Kinky Boots” along with Darren Bagert, Dan Shaheen and Ted Snowdon, bring this hilarious new comedy to Chicago.

Alex More has a story to tell.  A struggling actor in L.A., Alex takes a job working in the mall in Barbra Streisand's Malibu basement.  One day, the Lady Herself comes downstairs to play.  It feels like real bonding in the basement, but will their relationship ever make it upstairs?  BUYER & CELLAR is an outrageous comedy about the price of fame, the cost of things, and the oddest of odd jobs.

The New York Times critics Ben Brantley and Charles Isherwood recently raved about the play.  Brantley wrote that BUYER & CELLAR is "the most talked about new comedy of the season."  WQXR Radio’s Isherwood called the hit comedy "very funny" and "a tour-de-force performance."

BUYER & CELLAR is the recipient of the 2013 Drama Desk, Clarence Derwent, and Off-Broadway Alliance awards.  Following the play’s world premiere in April 2013 at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, the critics were wowed:

“An irresistible play.  Seriously funny.  The wit and invention of Mr. Tolins’s writing and the immersive storytelling skills of Mr. Urie are such that not only do they spin a sturdy narrative out of this preposterous situation, they actually persuade you to buy into it.” --David Rooney, The New York Times

“Hilarious.  A multidimensional unraveling of our voyeuristic enjoyment of celebrity entitlement.” --Peter Marks, The Washington Post

“Utterly charming and often whacky.  Under the playful and efficient direction of Stephen Brackett, Michael Urie is funny and touching, delivering a winning, sweet performance.  Tolins’s script sparkles with sly humor. --Mark Kennedy, Associated Press.

"Beyond brilliant.  This show will go down like 'butta.'” --Entertainment Weekly

ACT OUT EXTENDED: TO MASTER THE ART at Broadway Playhouse #BroadwayInChicago

EXTENDED BY POPULAR DEMAND!
TWO WEEKS ADDED!
Performances through October 20
Broadway In Chicago is thrilled to announce that TO MASTER THE ART, by William Brown and Doug Frew, has been extended by popular demand  and will play an additional two weeks at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 E. Chestnut). The six week engagement will begin Sep. 10 and run through Oct. 20, 2013.  The Chicago Commercial Collective will produce the 2010 TimeLine Theatre world premiere hit.

Six of the 10 cast members are returning from the TimeLine production: Karen Janes Woditsch and Craig Spidle return to the roles of Julia and Paul Child.  Other returning cast members include Jeannie Affelder, Ian Paul Custer, TimeLine Associate Artist Terry Hamilton and TimeLine Company Member Juliet Hart, now joined by Sam Ashdown, TimeLine Company Member Janet Ulrich Brooks, Heidi Kettenring and Brian Plocharczyck.

Commissioned by TimeLine Theatre Company, TO MASTER THE ART received its world premiere at TimeLine in 2010, receiving more than 20 rave reviews and five Jeff Award nominations, including New Work and Production.  The play recalls the adventure and romance of Julia and Paul Child’s journey of discovery to Paris during the 1950s.  From the bistro where Julia fell in love with food, to the kitchen table where she recreated everything learned during cooking class, to a room where Paul was grilled by U.S. agents about alleged Communist contact, this is the epic love story of a larger-than-life culinary icon and her remarkable husband as they struggle to find themselves as Americans abroad.

Broadway In Chicago is proud to host this great Chicago-born play as part of its ongoing hope that the Broadway Playhouse will continue to be the home to many home-grown Chicago theatre hits.

About TimeLine Theatre Company and TO MASTER THE ART
The initial idea of TO MASTER THE ART was hatched by TimeLine Company members during an artistic retreat in the summer of 2006. The development of TO MASTER THE ART has been partially supported by The Dramatists Guild Fund.

Over its first 16 seasons, TimeLine has presented 55 productions, including nine world premieres and 19 Chicago premieres, and launched the Living History Education Program, which brings the company's mission to life for students in Chicago Public Schools.
