Empty Bottle says:

HE’S
MY BROTHER SHE’S MY SISTER is an outfit with a pretty self-explanatory
name.  Led by brother and sister ROB and RACHEL KOHLAR, the lineup also
includes a tap dancer/full-body percussionist and an emotively
unconventional cellist.  The bands’ EP has been called “flamboyant
folk,” “psych-acoustic,” and “vaudeville-y”
and NPR has
praised their live performances for being full of “dancing, humor and
nostalgia…spreading great vibes across the country.”  The band has
played over 200 shows in the past year and they return to the Bottle
amidst a tour as main support for EDWARD SHARPE AND THE MAGNETIC ZEROS
and we’re to welcome back their alleyway rhythms and earthly swagger to our stage.

**ChiIL Live Shows has shot The Damn Choir and Paper Thick Walls in action a number of times.   Click on the links above, for our photo filled features on the bands, and check out our archive of show shots at ChiIL Live Shows, ChiIL Mama, our FB pages and Twitter feeds.   Come early and check all 3 sweet bands!

ACT OUT: CHI, IL LIVE DANCE--DANCE CRASH AT DCA

Gotham City:  A World Premiere Presented by Chicago Dance Crash

30 Dancers Perform Break-Dance, Ballet, Hip-Hop in Two-Act Comic Book Saga Choreographed by Jessica Deahr

CHICAGO DANCE CRASH CELEBRATES 10TH ANNIVERSARY WITH
BIGGEST SHOW TO DATE, GOTHAM CITY, JUNE 8 – JULY 15, 2012

Dancers Perform Break-Dance, Ballet, Hip-Hop in Two-Act Comic Book Saga Choreographed by Jessica Deahr at DCA Storefront Theater

Chicago Dance Crash, in association with DCA Theater, presents the world premiere of Gotham City, a fully choreographed graphic novel featuring a fusion of hip- hop, ballet and heart-pumping acrobatics performed by 30 dancers. Gotham City is the largest production Chicago Dance Crash has undertaken in its 10-year history. Choreographed by Jessica Deahr and written by Mark Hackman, Gotham City runs June 8 – July 15 2012, at the DCA Storefront Theater, 66 East Randolph Street.

Chicago Dance Crash transforms the DCA Storefront Theater into the dark, dirty, dangerous city of comic book fame, ‘Gotham.’ From sunset to sunrise eight main characters - a young female pickpocket, a dirty cop, a wandering orphan, newlywed tourists, a director, a flamboyant gang- leader and an enigmatic con man – fight to survive in this criminal wasteland. With a breathtaking fusion of dance styles, Gotham’s population of 10 million is brought to life by 30 explosive dancers fluent in classic and contemporary forms in a moving-portrait of one night in the dark life of urban underworld America.

“A story-based dance show with a cast of 30 and a six weekend run is simultaneously daunting, and yet incredibly exciting,” said choreographer Jessica Deahr. “Gotham City is not your typical dance concert. Throughout the two acts, you’ll see a blend of hard core hip hop, capoeira (Brazilian martial arts), straight-edged jazz, and clown-like contemporary, to name a few, performed by an incredibly talented and athletic cast.”

“We have layered intense characters, honest relationships and a gripping story of betrayal and power into the choreography. The audience will truly understand, and be impacted by, where the action is leading them,” added Deahr.

In addition to performing with Chicago Dance Crash as guest artist and company member from 2007 through present, Jessica Deahr has toured North America, South America, Central America, Europe and Asia as dancer and aerial artist with Royal Caribbean Productions, Jean Ann Ryan Productions, and Goldberg Entertainment for the USO. She has performed with Inaside Chicago Dance, Instruments of Movement, the Joel Hall Dancers, The MASSIVE, and with independent choreographers such as Harrison McEldowney in Chicago-based company shows as well as in Dance For Life, Jazz Dance World Congress, Spring To Dance, Duets For My Valentine, Chicago Takes Off and Dance Chicago.

Deahr has also performed at various industrials, corporate events, festivals and at the B96 Jingle Bash with Stage Factor, Impulse Talent, the JumpSmokers and Too White Crew. She has set choreography with Chicago Dance Crash, Chicago Tap Theater, Inaside Chicago Dance, Goldberg Entertainment, Dances in the Parks and in Dance Chicago where she received the New Voice Outstanding Choreography award for 2011.

Performers include David Ingram, Mary Tarpley, Charlie Cutler, Brian Humphreys, Julian Devine, Chantelle Mrowka, Paul Christiano, Al Tamper, Daniel "Qwan" Gibson, Taylor Stewart, Erin Clyne, Kaitlin Webster Keegan, Jahmilah Alazam, Emily Sarkissian, Melissa Metro, Becky Hutt and many others.

Here's the scoop from SCamp:

For brothers Todd and Eric Fink of The Giving Tree Band, there is no distinction between playing music and just plain living. Their bodies and instruments become a singularity that is just trying to get in tune, stay in tune, and add a little harmony to the grand symphony of life.Descending from legendary folk hero Mike Fink and Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto on their mother’s side, the Finks have extended their brotherhood into an epic collective known as The Giving Tree Band. A band’s band, the Brothers Fink and company live, work, and tour the country together – keeping tune with nature, sleeping under the stars, bathing in rivers, and treating time as the only real currency.

Though the story of The Giving Tree Band is still being written, it can already be said that these musical frontiersmen are redefining “virtuosity,” which is traditionally understood as dizzying displays of technical wizardry. But what is missing from this definition is the root word – Virtue.

And it is upon this foundation of Virtue that The Giving Tree Band weaves their musical tapestry – by playing every note with integrity, every part with humility, every song with honesty, and every show with gratitude.

HoZac's Blackout Fest Smashes Empty Bottle The Next 3 Days

Hozac's Blackout Fest is Back.   If you got tickets, it's gonna be a weekend to remember.

Empty Bottle Says:
From 2001-2006, the Chicago Blackout Festival was the first purely Midwest rock & roll festival, celebrating the yearly release of Horizontal Action Magazine.  Last year marked its triumphant return and we’re pleased to welcome back HoZac, now a dynamic independent label that’s released 100 records in their first five years of operation, to curate a fest for 2012.

Headlining the second night are REDD KROSS.  Stitching together shards of raging hardcore with pieces of leftover glam infection and delivered with the grace of a drunken chainsaw juggler, REDD KROSS might not be often mentioned in the central spotlight in the early story of LA punk, but their trailblazing is undeniable.
GENTLEMAN JESSE & HIS MEN is an Atlanta-based  combo that revels in the bright, energetic power pop sounds of the early new wave era.  Full-throttle, throat-wrenching punk from Cleveland’s premiere skull crushers the HOMOSTUPIDS will likely make the club explode after psych/pop Texas wunderkinds FUNGI GIRLS beguile and seduce the room with their powerfully delicate and cavernous sound.

TELEDROME brings icy synth punk down from Calgary, Alberta, drizzling icy keyboard leads over pounding, dark rhythms all drenched in a dazzling monotone vocal veneer.  Brutally dark post punk from Cleveland is delivered by the PLEASURE LEFTISTS and FAR-OUT FANGTOOTH brings deranged goth garage noise from Philly.

Another neighbor to the north, KETAMINES create a rush of swirling pop psychedelia and ropes you into a Technicolor world that we never knew existed in Calgary.  Heart-stopping power pop from Atlanta’s BARRERACUDAS and hard pounding rock from ginger brother-sister Chicago duo WHITE MYSTERY open the day’s music marathon.

ACT OUT: CHI, IL LIVE THEATRE ON OUR RADAR

Blast from the past:
I just got an e-mail update from Andy Eninger,  a friend I've known for over 20 years and used to do improv with, waaay back in the day at Miami University.   I have fond memories of letters he sent from his grad work in Budapest, Hungary.   They were these crazy-creative stream of consciousness missives with negatives from the cutting room floor taped on and sent half way around the world (I think they're still in my basement!).   He did a riff once on my addy labels that had L as my middle initial, and he filled an envelope musing on "What does the L stand for...."

He's now a fabulous fixture at Second City, Annoyance and all over the Chicago scene.   He is currently the head of the Second City Training Center's Writing Program where he gets to warp the minds of young actors.  His rampant creativity has escalated from the back of envelopes to the classroom, and to the main stage, for all to enjoy!   These are his current and upcoming shows.   Check 'em out.

Andy says:
I have a show running now, and two coming up that I'm very proud of.  One is all girls; one is all boys; one is a mix.
