SAVE THE DATE: Black Flag FREE Kids' Show at Reggies 6/17 & Lawsuit Settled

Real punk for the punk kin...

Hey punk rock moms and dads, ChiIL Mama's got the word there'll be a FREE KIDS SHOW with none other than punk rock royalty BLACK FLAG!!! Yes, that's right, your child can meet Greg Ginn and the other members of Black Flag and hear some rockin' awesome stripped down Black Flag songs LIVE, for FREE! The date is June 17th at Record Breakers at Reggies at 6 pm and they'll have free hot dogs and sweet, sweet sugary soda for the kids! Afterward you can go home and have a TV Party! This is for real, this is not a joke, this is awesome.

Last year we caught both Black Flag and Flag on tour.  This year we'll be back with the punk kin in tow. Can't wait!

On a related note:

The suit brought by SST Records and Greg Ginn against the members of Flag, which was filed in August 2013, has been settled, in an agreement signed by Greg Ginn, SST Records, and former Black Flag members Henry Rollins, Keith Morris, etc.

The pertinent settlement points are as follows:

· The ownership of all of the recordings of Black Flag have been confirmed to Greg Ginn and SST Records.

· All rights in the Black Flag name and logo have been confirmed to Greg Ginn and SST Records.

· Henry Rollins and Keith Morris, who had surreptitiously attempted to register the Black Flag logo (the “bars’’) with the U.S. Trademark Office, have conveyed any rights they had in that trademark to Greg Ginn and SST Records.

. Flag wil cease use of the Black Flag logo.

"As was inevitable, this little bump in the road is out of the way and BLACK FLAG will continue as planned without the confusion."   ...Mike Vallely, singer BLACK FLAG.

NEW RELEASES: Dublin based Noise Rockers Girl Band Premieres "Lawman" Single On Noisey

Check out the new Lawman single from ironically named noise rockers, Girl Band.  Here at ChiIL Live Shows, we've been liking what we've heard from these Dublin based boys.

The band is influenced by a mix of 70s post punk, 80s hardcore punk, with textures and song structures influenced by techno acts.  Their live show is known for being loud, intense and energetic.

7" Single Out January 20th In The US On Any Other City Records

Girl Band are:
Dara Kiely / Alan Duggan / Daniel Fox / Adam Faulkner

Noisey recently premiered the track saying it "boasts no-wave muttering over a cacophony of defibrillated guitar, as the instruments are forced to glitch and burp within an inch of their lives." The single (due for release on January 20th in the US via Any Other City Records) includes the b-side "Heckle The Frames" and will be released on a limited run of 300 7" records, each screen-printed and hand stitched.  Lawman is the follow up to the band's 2012 debut EP France 1998.

Press Quotes
"Second One is a fantastic blast of punky fury and righteous energy." -THE IRISH TIMES

"This is maniacal music, the kind that translates onto its listener and turns them into a more rabid individual. Watch out." -THIS IS FAKE DIY

"musically somewhere between bleach-era nirvana, mclusky, jesus lizard and even that incendiary first idlewild demo in their teens, long before they started sounding like rem. this a band listening to the same bands as metz have been listening to, but living a lot closer to home.' a must." -ROUGH TRADE

"A succinct, vicious little slab of noise-pop genius that expertly blends texture, dissonance, and squealing, searing feedback with tight dynamism and an infectious hook; think 'Song 2' by Blur if they'd been paying homage to noise-rock, rather than parodying grunge." -DROWNED IN SOUND

"Goddamn this is ace." -THE QUIETUS

"Taken from the ingeniously-named France ‘98 EP, ‘You’re A Dog’ is the perfect introduction to fearless neo-grungers Girl Band, on the off-chance that you haven’t yet heard the masterful noise rock these four Dubliners produce." -HOT PRESS

Pentimento #FREEfullalbumdownload #punk

Pentimento's debut, self-titled full-length record was originally announced for a November 13 release date via Paper + Plastick Records and Black Numbers. Today is November 13, and the Buffalo, NY-based indie-punk-rockers have just made their new LP available to the public...but not exactly how it was originally planned.

Pentimento can now be downloaded for free on PentimentoNY.com, and on the site, fans can read an in-depth statement from the band regarding the complications that surrounded the album's release. The group has cut ties with Paper + Plastick and Black Numbers because of legal action that was threatened by former label Panic Records.

*free download right here

The band, releasing its album for free independently, is taking donations via PayPal to help pay back GCR Audio and producer/engineer Jay Zubricky for the recording costs. The band is not selling its record, but taking donations from those willing to help out with the recording bill.
Finally, the day is here! A few weeks back, we announced we would be releasing our debut, self-titled full-length record via Paper + Plastick Records and Black Numbers, and we were more than ecstatic to have the opportunity to work with a team of outstanding individuals with their minds and hearts in the music. However, we are displeased to announce that this will not be happening.

We feel that it is only fair to be honest about the situation and lay it straight out for you to understand. Honesty, truth, integrity, sincerity ... these are all things that are not as plentiful in the world as they should be. Pentimento as a band and as individuals are on a collective journey to find more of these things in the world and within ourselves. We are not perfect. We are not meant to be. We are learning from our mistakes everyday and it is so exhilarating to do so and to realize that this exact process is what life is all about.

Panic Records has hired a lawyer to threaten legal action toward Pentimento, Paper + Plastick and Black Numbers if we continue on with our record release. That's why this album hasn't had a normal marketing plan around it - that's why you guys haven't been able to preorder the record online. No vinyl or CDs or cassettes have been pressed. Plainly and simply, we've decided to close our relationships with P+P/BN at the current time in the interest of protecting those labels from legal action, and in the interest of forging on ourselves as an independent band. Panic Records has made threats to file take-down claims from any digital distributor selling our album. They've enforced take-down claims with YouTube regarding the few songs we have already released for you guys to hear, which due to the situation are no longer available. Truth be told, we have been in this legal battle with Panic since September. And even though we had to put off the relationships we were so excited to start only a couple months ago, we MUST push on as a band.

That's why we're giving you guys our debut full-length record for free. Starting today. We believe in this record. As four individuals, there is nothing more that we want than to be playing these songs around the world. This is the reason why we must release the record independently. We feel it is completely necessary for us to tell this story and to offer you the record that we are so very proud of. Starting today, and for as long as we possibly can before a lawyer comes for us and tries to shut us down, you'll be able to download our new LP for free. It should be clear that our intent is not to defame anyone in this matter. Our intent is to explain the honest story of where Pentimento is forced to stand today with the continued support of Jay Zubricky and GCR Audio.

The economics of being in a band have inevitably left us with a bill to cover the expenses of the record ourselves. This is where the "sob story" begins and ends, and again, please understand that our intent is not to give you a sob story. Our intent is to give you our record.

If you open a pizza shop, you need ovens and ingredients and workers before you can even get a single pie out to your customers. All of those things cost money. Being in a band is no different. The economics of releasing an album include recording studio costs, artwork, publicity, etc. Now that we are without label support, these expenses are in the hands of Pentimento, which like many other touring acts, spends less time at work and more time in the van.

We NEED you to hear this record. Therefore, we are giving it to you for free. We will assume the expenses ourselves. If you would like to donate to the economics of the four of us continuing on as Pentimento, information can be found at the end of this message.

Always be SMART, ARTICULATE and PASSIONATE - three words that we have gathered from an individual who has helped guide us to what we aspire to be. We are trying to do those exact things. This record belongs to you just as much as it does to us. Thank you for your continued support. We want nothing more than to share with you the music that makes us feel alive.

All donations will be accepted at pentimentomerch@gmail.com via PayPal. Please include your address and phone number (if you please) as we would like to contact everyone individually who has supported us financially.

Waves of Fury to Release "Thirst" 10/30 Free MP3 HERE #punk

Waves of Fury to Release "Thirst" Through
Alive Records on October 30, 2012

FREE MP3 of "These Things I Leave You" HERE

"They have found a way to reconcile their twin passions: Stooges and Stax,
garage and soul, rock'n'roll's trash aesthetic and the exuberance
and jubilation of old-style R&B." The Guardian

'Thirst' is the debut album from Somerset based Waves Of Fury. Having already made an excellent early impression with taster single 'Businessman's Guide To Witchcraft', earning them a Guardian New Band Of The Day & Q Track Of The Day in the process, this 10 track debut long player sees Carter Sharp (vocals), Bim Williams (horns), Fil Ward (guitars/vocals), James Macphee (drums) and Jamie Bird (pianos/vocals) take up the rhythm & blues blueprint and filter it through a 40+ year historical path that encompasses everything from Motown & Stax to The Stooges, Sex Pistols, Spiritualized & The Mary Chain. It's a sonic blast of an album, and a welcome breath of fresh air.

Prior to the album being recorded at PJ Harvey's Bristol studio, Waves Of Fury spent several weeks touring the southern states of America. That experience very much shapes the record as Carter Sharp explains: "We are based in Somerset, and having travelled a bit in Southern US, I think it's our closest equivalent to some of those places. There's a similar sense of darkness, reservation, secretiveness, closed communities. The songs are about types of behaviour and relationships that happen everywhere, but which maybe seem a bit more dangerous away from bright, noisy, crowded cities. I was interested in the idea that maybe it's easier to get away with things in dark, quiet and isolated corners".
Lyrically, the album is inspired by the great gothic writers like Poe and Saul Bellow fused with Carter Sharp's own biting observations of everyday life, particularly obsessions. One of the best examples of this is 'Viodrene (I Don't Get A Hard-On Over No-One)', a savage and humorous indictment of celebrity culture and movie star narcissm.

The album is also very much about technology says Carter: "For example, a few years ago, I think if a broke indie band wanted to have real horns on a record, it would have been really hard. They'd have needed a rich label funding it. Now with things like Protools and good studios being affordable and session players easy to find, we were able to make the record we wanted on a tiny budget. Which hopefully people will enjoy."

"Even with a hint of familiarity though, Blackhearts and Blackouts doesn’t sacrifice its heart for cheap gimmicks or faulty intentions – and that is all we can really ask for." -AbsolutePunk.net

More about Break Anchor:
When Jay Navarro, the singer/frontman of the Suicide Machines and Hellmouth, finally hit bottom and came out of a haze of booze, pills, anger and depression, he had a fresh outlook. He wrote a song so full of melody and so full of angst, he felt he had found himself again. “A Failure Of Epic Proportions” is a song about the Midwest American experience of growing into adulthood.

Thinking nobody would want to hear a song like this from him, or maybe anyone for that matter, he turned to longtime friend Cris Golan (The Story So Far and King For A Day) to play bass.

“I didn’t think anybody else in Detroit would get what I was trying to go for but Cris,” Navarro said. “I was aiming for early East Bay pop-punk like Crimpshrine, Operation Ivy, and yes...Green Day, and then mix in some Smashing Pumpkins.” Through a mutual friend, they hooked up with Kyle Green (Seized Up). Kyle brought a new perspective that would round out the trio of Break Anchor’s writing style. Late night jam sessions in the garage ensued, fueled by beer and always ending in a drunken listening party of old and new punk favorites.

With Jason and Kyle singing and handling guitar duties together, it became a wrestling match of dual vocals comparable to punk steadymen Hot Water Music and other such bands. Dan Stover (Seized Up) signed on to play drums and this Motor City rust belt machine was complete. Creating a fresh sound, unlike most Midwest offerings, Break Anchor will make you want to crack open a PBR or stare deep into the eyes of a bottle of whiskey, grab your best friend and sing along at the top of your lungs, “I'M FAILING!!”
