Complex Magazine named the group one of “20 New Bands To Watch Out For,” while the Onion/A.V. Club describes their music as “pop perfection” and SPIN raves that St. Lucia’s “billowy textures and soaring choruses offer a potent elixir of tropical breezes and distilled sunshine.”

MS MR @ The Grove Stage

New York City based duo MS MR released their album Secondhand Rapture this May. Toronto-based live electronic outfit KEYS N KRATES is releasing the SOLOW EP this September on Dim Mak Records. On the SOLOW EPKEYS N KRATES returns in full force with four diverse tracks that exemplify the group’s unique style. The EP follows the major success of their critically acclaimed single and accompanying remix package “Treat Me Right,” released in June via Dim Mak, which topped The Hype Machine upon its release and has since received continued support from influential artists in the electronic world, including Diplo and Major LazerFlosstradamusTNGHT, and more. The remix from producer Grandtheft of “Treat Me Right,” featured on the Treat Me Right EP, also reached #1 on the Beatport Electronica Top 100 chart. The SOLOW EP features the new track “Dum Dee Dum,” which mixes the group’s trademark blend of hip-hop, trap, and electronica influences, and will be released as a single August 6 via Dim Mak. Also featured on the SOLOW EP are tracks “I Just Can’t Deny”—an anthem built for stadium crowds and festival denizens alike—and the hip-hop heavy “Ratchet Hoes,” which best illustrates KEYS N KRATES’ dominance of the current electro-trap movement, as well as “Treat Me Right.” Best known for their energetic live performances, KEYS N KRATES have created an experimental sound unheard in electronic music today. The group—composed of Adam Tune on drumssynth-master David Matisse on keys, and internationally award-winning Jr. Flo on turntables—brings the experience to life via their fully live sets. KEYS N KRATES collage raw samples and twist them with live instrumentation, creating an inimitable sound and truly demonstrating the artistry of the live remix rarely seen in electronic music performance today. The trap-tinged electronic/hip-hop hybrid group has been enjoying major support from the online sphere and has become a mainstay in the sets of big hitters such as Major Lazer, TNGHT, Diplo, Annie Mac and Salva. They have also been crowned #1 on Billboard’s official “Next Big Sound” chart. Watch a live performance of their smash single “Treat Me Right” here: http://youtu.be/AiFpfS3vG5A.

STEVE AOKI

Perry’s Stage
8:45 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Closing out Perry’s Stage opening night at this year’s Lollapalooza, Grammy-nominated international EDM star STEVE AOKI broke bands such as Bloc Party, The Bloody Beetroots, Klaxons, and The Gossip through deftly marketed single and full-length releases on his Dim Mak label, which he began in 1996 and now has nearly 500 releases to date. Those releases often dovetailed into performances at his weekly Dim Mak nights including Dim Mak Studios (still going strong every Tuesday night in the heart of Hollywood).  As a label owner and shrewd curator of talent from around the world, those club nights have hosted the debut U.S. performances of hundreds of acts over the last decade from Lady Gaga to Ed Banger Records & Justice, Ke$ha, Skrillex, Kid Cudi, Kaiser Chiefs, No Age to Boys NoizeAOKI’s become a force of nature who has helped turn underground house, electro and harder-edged EDM with rap and rock leanings into the phenomena it is today: regularly pulling in 150,000+ fans at events such as Las Vegas’ Electric Daisy Carnival, the debut of the IDentity national electronic touring festival and his Deadmeat co-headlining tour with Datsik.   AOKI’s punk roots go back to the art of the house party, when he was just a student at UCSB and was already booking bands such as The Rapture, !!!, Jimmy Eat World, Hot Water Music and At the Drive-In at his Pickle Patch bash and forging relationships with big names that would end up serving him well in the future (he met Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo at a secret show in college). In 2012, AOKI was in the next level of his incredible music career with Wonderland as his first proper full-length release, followed by Wonderland Remix and his Deadmeat: Live at Roseland Ballroom DVD, all which bring a lifetime’s worth of passion for bands, DJs, and artists of all stripes he has met and/or worked with over the past two decades to the forefront.

Lolla Bands On Our Radar: Machines Are People Too Sunday at 4:30 at the BMI Stage

Machines Are People Too, Nashville-based Synth-pop quartet, who will be playing the festival this year on SUNDAY, AUGUST 4TH (4:30-5:10PM, BMI STAGE). The band's energetic live show and feel-good tunes have landed them coveted sets at additional summer festivals including Bonnaroo, Hangout Fest, Summerfest, Nocturnal Wonderland and more.

Their sophomore EP,  Nickels & Dimes, will be released July 23rd and is the follow up to their critically acclaimed debut EP Dreams produced by Lars Stalfors (The Mars Volta, Matt & Kim, Funeral Party).

TODAY Lolla Bands On Our Radar: Brick + Mortar play the Lolla BMI stage at 2:10pm on Friday

The band has a great sound and an amazing back story.  They released their debut “Bangs” EP on July 30. The singer's blood diamond smuggling dad inspired a lot of their music.  Check them out.

Brick + Mortar (Asbury Park, NJ) are an indie rock, drum and bass duo formed by Brandon Asraf (bass guitar, vocals) and bandmate John Tacon (drums, electronic samples, vocals).  Brick + Mortar have garnered a notable amount of regional success since their 2008 formation, making them a significant part of the musical and artistic culture of Asbury Park, New Jersey as it is the first electronic drum and bass pop duo to have such success in the area.

Since middle school, the two bonded further over their shared interest in the artistry of songwriting.  As Brick + Mortar, they began focusing more heavily on the use of electronic samples in their music as well as relying less on improvisation and more on structured pop songs.  Brick + Mortar represent the underground, the oppressed, the disillusioned, and voiceless.  Fusing driving percussion, grooving bass, eclectic samples, and anthemic vocals, the band creates a new world sound that is so fresh you truly need to hear it for yourself.

The roots of several of Brick + Mortar's songs stem from the incredible experiences of lead singer Brandon Asraf's childhood as the son of a international blood diamond smuggler.  In the band's lead single "Bangs", the bass hits like a massive punch to the face, and the narrative of the ultra-violent accompanying video, based on the life of Asraf's father, is likely one of the more brutal stories you've ever bore witness to.  "This video opened the door for us to be more than a band.  People seem to wait for that song to sing their hearts out at shows," explains Asraf of the impact the single has had on the band.  To quote Nylon Magazine, “There’s an undeniable energy that charges through New Jersey-based duo Brick + Mortar…Lead singer Brandon Asraf’s voice has a ferocious punch to it and effortlessly moves from solemn croon to savage cry without losing an ounce of passion along the way. Tensions build and tribal beats boom under biting lyrics. These guys will hit you like a delightful ton of bricks (pun intended).”

Brick + Mortar are set to release their 7-song EP titled “Bangs” on July 30th, and includes favorites such as “Bangs”, “Heatstroke” and “Old Boy” along with brand new tracks “Terrible Things”, “No I Won’t Go”, “Locked In A Cage”, as well as “Keep This Place Beautiful” which was co-written by Justyn Pilbrow (The Neighborhood - “Sweater Weather”).

Brick + Mortar's consistent performances quickly gained them a strong following as one of the best live bands in the Asbury Park music scene. Notable support for national acts include performances with Galactic, Jimmy Eat World, H.R. [Bad Brains], and Cymbals Eat Guitars.  Their live show is a party that erupts like a magnetic sonic volcano catching the attention of everyone in the room, drawing them to the stage full of intrigue and energy.

Aside from touring Brick + Mortar will also be busy with several other projects this Fall, including putting out a fully animated music video created by artist Richie Brown and focusing on writing for their debut full length.  "The goal is to make our album an audiovisual experience.  I feel like the songs we are working on are our best yet.  We are ready to make a full length record.  We are not for the faint of heart.  Our brash, gritty, whip-smart sound foregoes guitar in favor of bass, drums, and electronic samples.  At our shows, the audience is part of the band.  That's what makes playing each show uniquely exciting and inspiring. We will give you 100% every time because we truly love what we do.  Hopefully, you give us 100% back".
