A remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship.

England, 1914. As World War One begins, Joey, young Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped from England to France. He's soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man's land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home.

This powerfully moving and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and songs, is a show of phenomenal inventiveness that is currently playing to packed houses in London, New York and Toronto. At its heart are astonishing life-sized puppets created by South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company, that bring to life breathing, galloping, charging horses strong enough for men to ride.   warhorseonstage.com

ChiIL Mama and the kids got in on the opening night action at Potted Potter and we all loved it!  I honestly can't remember the last time an audience full of adults and kids all laughed so hard.   This low tech, old school show is brilliant sketch comedy, and supreme silliness coupled with over the top talent.   Dan and Jeff are two funny guys.   This show has been extended by popular demand so you have until January 6th to see these brilliantly beguiling Brits before they leave Chi-town.

A
Critic's Pick by the New York Times, New York Magazine and Time Out
London, Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience — A Parody by
Dan and Jeff, won the prestigious 2012 Olivier Award nomination for Best
Entertainment & Family Show; playing to sold-out houses worldwide.

Written and performed by former BBC Television hosts Daniel Clarkson and
Jefferson Turner,
the play takes on the ultimate challenge of
condensing, or "potting", all seven Harry Potter books into 70 madcap
minutes, aided only by multiple costume changes, brilliant songs,
ridiculous props and a generous helping of Hogwarts magic.
The show also
invites audiences to engage with a real life game of Quidditch, but
according to Clarkson and Turner's unique set of rules.

Whether
you camped outside a bookstore for three days awaiting the release of
the Deathly Hallows or you don't know the difference between a horcrux
and a Hufflepuff, the comedy, magic and mayhem of POTTED POTTER makes
for an entertaining and hilarious visit to the theatre. The fast-paced
show, which has made audiences aged six to Dumbledore (who is very old
indeed) roar with laughter all over the world, is perfect for the entire
family.

"A fabulously funny parody...will tickle the funny bone of every age group." - The Daily Telegraph

"Breathless and...HILARIOUS! -The New York Times

"...a zany hoot!"-The New York Post

"...an AWESOME show!" - Time Magazine for Kids

Multicultural Dance: KARIM TONSY “CURFEW” PRODUCTION 12/6 & 7

Karim Tonsy is excited to announce his upcoming show “CURFEW,” as he embarks on the creation of his 21st theatrical production with the ever-evolving “Karim Tonsy Egyptian Physical Dance Company” (KTED). From Italy to Egypt, London, Lebanon and now America, Karim has captured the hearts of those who share his love and passion of Dance and the Performing Arts.

“CURFEW” examines the boundaries and the liberties of “freedom” in its many forms- physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Karim seeks to provoke thoughtful contemplation of how we become at peace with what we can control and what we cannot. This will be a personal and intimate poetic journey as Karim recalls the recent, heartbreaking loss of his father and the restrictive circumstances that prevented Karim from reaching him in his final days. Karim reflects on the turmoil and constraints in his beloved homeland, Egypt, coupled with the hope of the freedom he aspires to in making a new home in America. Karim seeks a harmonious marriage of the two countries he loves.  The mission of KTED is to connect the cultures through the universal expression of dance and movement.

KTED celebrates six years of cross cultural dance theatre in Chicago. As a part of the company’s outreach agenda, KTED, a nonprofitorganization, is committed to broadening cultural awareness through ancient and modern dance movement.

Karim Tonsy is an international choreographer from Cairo, Egypt. After finishing his studies in theatre and movement at the American University in Cairo, Karim attended London Contemporary Dance School for further training in contemporary dance. He began his career with the establishment of his dance company, KTED, and directed his first performance in Cairo, Egypt. Karim has experience working with directors in Egypt, Italy, London, Lebanon, and Chicago, and teaches classes at the renowned Equinox Fitness Clubs.

“Curfew” runs Thursday Dec. 6th and Friday Dec. 7th at Ruth Page Center of the Arts, Chicago IL. Purchase tickets at www.brownpapertickets.com. General tickets are $25.00, Seniors/Students are $20.00, and Children under 12 are $10.00.

VICTORY RECORDS WELCOMES THE REVEREND HORTON HEAT

Victory Records is honored to announce that THE REVEREND HORTON HEAT has joined the Victory roster.

The Rev comments, “We are very excited to be a Victory band now. Since we are going to get back to doing some edgier stuff, it makes perfect sense to be on Victory. Plus, they are as passionate as we are. Stay tuned for some crazy ideas about our new album. Tony said I'm graduating to Pope. Hallelujah!!!” “Signing a veteran artist of The Reverend Horton Heat’s caliber and reputation coupled with the fact that they are one of the hardest touring rock artists, year after year, is a very exciting way for us to end 2012. A large number of us here have been fans for many years. We very much look forward to working with the band and its longstanding team,” said Victory founder Tony Brummel.

Formed in 1985, THE REVEREND HORTON HEAT exploded on the scene by playing gigs around their hometown of Dallas, Texas, mixing elements of surf, country, punk, big band and rockabilly to create a genre that took the world by storm. Often imitated, never duplicated, the Rev has continued to garner the support of both the underground rockabilly/ psychobilly scene and mainstream critics. Throughout the band’s million plus album selling career, their music has been featured in countless TV shows, movies and commercials, it’s impossible to deny the powerful force that is THE REVEREND HORTON HEAT.  They continue to electrify audiences time and time again with their incredible stage presence, rock ‘n roll charisma and contagious energy.

Ready to revive a genre that’s been watered down for years, THE REVEREND HORTON HEAT have jump started their headlining STEWED, SCREWED and TATTOOED tour that will ignite over fifty-seven cities across the US this Winter and throughout 2013.  Lemmy from MOTORHEAD said it best, “Reverend Horton Heat, he’s great and plays the music he believes in and nothing else. Go see him or I’ll kill you!” Prepare to rock harder than you have ever rocked before!  See the full listing of tour dates here.

Watch for the announcement of THE REVEREND HORTON HEAT’s debut Victory Records release in 2013 and stay tuned for updates! Brand new t-shirt designs are currently available through the Victory Records’ webstore.

HELP LOCALLY: The Bright White at Schubas 18+

Chicago's The Bright White have organized the second annual Warm, Safe and Sound, a concert/clothing drive featuring some of the city's top bands, including co-headliners Panda Riot and openers Panther Style. The show will take place on Thursday, Dec. 20 at Schuba's Tavern at 7PM. Cover is $8 with the donation of winter gear for the needy.

Panda Riot formed in Philadelphia while Brian Cook and Rebecca Scott were working on some short films. Soundtracks turned into songs and Panda Riot was born. They picked up a drum machine, a couple of guitars, and the result was She Dares All Things, a collection of bedroom recorded songs. A move to Chicago saw the addition of Justin Cheng on Bass and Jose Rodriguez on Aux percussion. Last year they dropped the Far and Near Ep. This year they are currently working on a new record entitled Northern Automatic Music.

Comprised of four working class guys who proudly wear their hearts on their sleeves, Chicago's The Bright White debuted in 2011. Frontman Matthew James and guitarist Joe O'Leary dreamt up the concept of combining elements of power pop and post-punk months before drummer Steve Zelenko and bassist Peter Krutiak responded to a Craigslist ad for a rhythm section.
The Bright White released their second album, Lose Yourself, in the summer of 2012. They look forward to connecting with audiences who have been waiting for sing-along choruses, fist-in-the-air guitar solos and the swagger of a band who knows its best days are ahead: "The Bright White make power pop music, with the power part made bold and underlined. This is a band that sounds hungry. Starving, even. For every catchy chorus and guitar hook, there's a sense of urgency--almost a ferocity--that goes along with it to make it clear that they know exactly what they want to do." (Windy City Rock)
